kisetsu - Tsumami Kanzashi - Sho Chiku Bai - Classic

Tsumami kanzashi are hair ornaments made of pinched silk that are traditionally worn by maiko (apprentice geisha) to decorate their hair for formal occasions. This set is a 3 piece set that includes the main maiko style hana kanzashi, a sspecial new years maezashi and a bridge of flowers over the mage (bun) at the back of the hairstyle.

This set is a winter set of kanzashi, in the combination of plum blossom, bamboo and pine called the three friends of winter, or sometimes sho chiku bai. The maezashi is one that is warn by maiko and even geisha at New Years, a small white bird on a stalk of rice. The eyes of the bird are drawn on later for good luck.
