Marble column featuring The Triumph of Dionysos and the Four Seasons. Roman, Late Imperial, ca. CE 260-270. The original decorates an ancient sarcophagus. The Greek God Dionysos is sitting on a panther. A beautiful artwork that looks very realistic because of the relief on the flat plaque.
The foot of the column is decorated by four lion heads. Like the Roman eagle, the lion was also one of the most important symbols of the Roman Empire with which rulers like Julius Caesar identified. The lion is also found in the Persian, Macedonian, Hellenistic, and Greek art and sculpture.
You're allowed to copy the column as many times as you like, so you can make a long impressing colonnade if you want.
