When I bought this in June 2015 it worked well and was a good solution to a need many pilots had at the time. As I recall it was the only such solution than, though approx a year later other options became available by other developers. Since 2015 the version is still v1.4 and when I recently attached the hud the scripts were frozen, resetting and re-logging did nothing, I needed to get a re-delivery and use a fresh copy. Also it appears the database this uses must all be in a single file, the database(s) released approx monthly in SL Aviation uses several files for different areas and a different format. While this appears to work ok I hope it is updated to accept the format being used for the databases released in SL Aviation it is a huge benefit and saves a lot of time.
Awesome product for landing easily on any airport in SL
What a nice product! Great job. I am so happy with HSI Indicator.
Looks and works fine but quite a few issues
>Slow start, takes a minute or few stuck at checking update or reading notecard. I only have 4 airports so imagine how long will it take to read 100
>Linear airport scroll, so you're looking at 20 to 50 clicks on next or back button for list of 100 ap's.
>Approach beeps come after you've landed instead of during approach which means you're going to hear some annoying beeps during your stay on airport, unless you turn it off, which means starting it back up will take minutes, or switch it to some other airport.
>I texted creator few times and never got a response so don't expect support or updates.
The much it works, is great and you'll nail the landings if you know how to use it,without having to set drawdistance to million miles or seeing the map.
Strongly recommended for beginners pilots!
If you are not accustomed to using a map when flying, I strongly recommend this device when it comes to flight destination. Just carefully follow the arrow and look at your surroundings before landing. It really helps to navigate and guide your flight path to your nearest airport or travel destination. Best for both beginners and experienced SL pilots.
Amazing!
adds another level of realism having a navigational indicator, also having the automated male vocal altitude announcer as ur coming into land, love that addition of it, had no idea it did that but wow, so worth the money!
Good instrument, it could be better if..
It is useful, and for the ones who like a bit more simulation or challenges (land on unknown runways or using a very very short draw distance) it is fun.
Configurable, easy to add any runway, very useful glideslope to start a smooth descending with the correct angle from quite a distance (configurable range).
A couple of things could be upgraded:
- It is (at the moment I write this) impossible to set runway direction other than N,S,E,W (some runways have different directions, example SLJA Juneau airport has rwy 14, and could only set HSI hud to 180 as closest for that runway. SLSM St Martin is another example of different runway direction, have to set it to N as closest direction). Would be geat to have the possibility to set ruway directions to at least NE,NW,SE,SW.
- It seems to conflict with DSA aircrafts hud, resulting in DSA hud to get stuck when using the HSI together with it.
