The Managed Area Security System (MASS) enables land owner (or their administrators) to manage security for several different areas of their land, all from a central monitor. It is especially suitable where there are multiple tenants on the same parcel, e.g. sky boxes, stores, etc., but it can be used whenever the land owner needs to have separate white lists (avatars who are allowed entry) for different areas of the same parcel. This avoids the need to buy and maintain separate security orbs for each area. The MASS includes a non-transferable monitor and control object, a transferable Land Relay (for use on group owned land), and a transferable tenant HUD.

Most system-wide parameters are entered into the monitor via a Config notecard. The following parameters can be set via the Config notecard:
- Tenant names and associated monitored areas (see note below).
- Owner's white list. Takes precedence over tenants' white lists. Any avatars on this white list will be allowed to enter any area of the parcel(s).
- Administrator list. List of avatars allowed to operate the system and edit certain parameters.
- Scanned area. Can be set to scan only the current parcel or all parcels with the same owner in the region.
- Scan rate. The interval at which scans are repeated.
- UUID of avatar to receive parcel-wide intrusion alert IMs.
- Warning time. Time that an intruder is given to leave the area before being ejected or teleported home.
- Eject intruder method. AWAY boots them off the sim, HOME teleports them home.
- Turn monitor status colors on/off. Yellow=initializing, gray=not scanning, white=scanning, green=processing scan, magenta=intruder detected, red=intruder ejected.

NOTE: Individual monitored areas can be specified on the Config notecard in one of two different formats, providing a way to monitor any rectangular or spherical areas:
a. Minimum and maximum limits of X, Y and Z region coordinates (Xmin, Xmax, Ymin, Ymax, Zmin, Zmax).
b. A point in region coordinates and a radius in meters around that point (X, Y, Z, radius).

The owner and their authorized administrators can interact with the monitor via a popup menu to change certain settings, e.g., edit tenant specific white lists, the parcel-wide owner's white list, parcel-wide intrusion alert IM recipient, enable/disable scanning, view or clear the intrusion log, view the current system status and settings, and restart the monitor. If the system owner wants administrators to be able to edit the Config notecard, they must grant the administrator mod rights to their objects.

Tenants are given a Tenant HUD which they can use to view or edit parameters for their specific area, e.g. enter and maintain their white list, turn their area monitoring on and off, designate an avatar to receive intrusion alerts, and view their intruder log. Once a tenant sets the parameters for their area, they don't need to wear the HUD to continue scanning. It only needs to be worn to change settings. Alternatively they can leave it rezzed in their area for quick access.

When an avatar is detected in one of the monitored areas, it is compared with the white list for that area and also with the parcel-wide white list. If the detected avatar is not white listed, they will be sent a warning message to leave the area within a certain time. The time is set on the Config notecard and applies to all monitored areas. If the intruder has not left within the warning time, they will either be ejected or teleported home, depending on the setting on the Config notecard.

Intrusions and ejections are logged and can be viewed by owners/admins and tenants. Tenants can only view log entries that pertain to their monitored area. Owners/admins can view all log entries. A maximum of 100 intrusion and ejection records will be kept in the log. After that, the oldest records will be deleted as new ones are added.
