SMS has two separate parts:
♦ Subscriber - lets visitors join or leave your list with one click.
♦ Mailbox - Outgoing mail sender
These are not networked - you store your mail lists independently. This gives you the flexibility to use both devices for whichever purposes you choose.

Names will be formatted as one name per line for easy addition to your names list for your Mailbox.

I have been using this item for some time now. It is perfect for my needs. It allows people to subscribe and unsubscribe, but you can also add avatar names to your mailing list, yourself.
I have been compiling lists of names for months, of those who visit my lands or purchase my products (I do have warnings telling people that they're tracked & their names are put on my list & tell them to touch the unsubscribe button to be permanently removed & this system appears to work well). I now have a list of over 10,000 avatar names. Try doing that with a normal group!
Of course, due to my large mailing list, it takes me about three days to complete a mailout. (It was much shorter when my list was shorter...lol). And I break my list into alphabetical order for mail outs, so if there is a glitch it is easier to start again. The only glitches I have come across have been occasional network dropouts, but as I said it's easy to start up again, and if you check the chat history you can see the last name sent to, and alter the notecard of names being sent to, to remove the ones already sent to, so that they aren't doubled up.
This all does mean that this is a hands on system, but you are in full control. There is no automatic server for customers to complain about. You can address their issues because you are the one working with it all.
I love it. And I love the little red mailbox (though I'm the only one who actually sees that, since it sits in my work area). The subscriber signs are low prim and modifiable. I put two together in one area of my shop, to make it double sided. And I did make the subscriber button larger, but that was because of my system of tracking, to make it easier for those who want to unsubscribe.
It also allows you to send not one but a few items with your mailout, so you can send samples or update notecards, as well.
All in all, a perfect system, with few problems whatsoever, other than that the bigger your list gets, the more work you will have to do. But the results are very satisfying. :-)
I have an off-world business that allows SL users to download PSD files and such. This tool allowed me to send automated information directly to over 850 avatars. That's hard to believe and would have never taken the time to search and IM each one of them myself.
This is an awesome product and I would recommend it to anyone, it simply can't be beat.
My item did not come when purchased as a gift from a friend to me and SL loves to eat IMs. The WHOLE reason in getting this mailbox system! LOL But the creator sent the item as soon as she was aware of the mix up with delivery. Good customer service and item to boot!
Works well - allows residents to sign up for mail notices.. rather than blasting everyone.
Managing groups can be a real pain in SL - the "real" groups, those which appear in the groups slots, are important for a lot of things connected to land and business, limitation to 25 is somewhat annyoing imho. As a business owner, I don't want to take a slot for something not that important like an update group, plus, joining an SL group is still a bit of clicking - sometimes a bit too much. Subscription based systems are the way to go for a business owner to keep in touch with customers.
Having said that, what about SMS Pro? Short: highly recommended, great value, works perfectly. Setting it up is really a breeze, comprehensive step-by-step instructions (pictures!) are easy to follow. If you have never used a system like this, you will be surprised how fast your group will grow^^.
I personally think, SMS Pro is the perfect solution for smaller to middle sized businesses or for people who don't mind adding new subscribers manually to the notecard. (which has the advantage of beeing save and having a backup)
If you don't have the time for that or are just lazy, you will have to pay like 6k monthly (!) for a web-based system - your decision.
Excellent - Really easy to use and set up. I was using another system that wanted a monthly payment but this is so much easier and far less hassle.
