Many Options, Many Problems
full star full star empty star empty star empty star Posted March 16, 2020 by Shillalah

There are many Options to use the boat, customize it and more. The details of the Instruments are very high Level. All in all it gives you a good, realistic Feeling of Cruising.
But ...
Changing a Pose is a Risk. There is no Pose Menu to switch from the Helm to a Seat or back. So if you stand up in a Non-Rez Sim the Boat will Poof away under your Feet. Targeting another Pose by Camera is a Game of Fortune.
Badest Point is the sim Crossing ! It is a Pain in the Ass !!! You loose so much Time to control the Ship while it is twisting around in any Direction, Up, to the sides and so on. Then the Camera starts again from a Backview to the Front nearly 180° loosing Time again.

I like the Style and the Details, but driving this Boat is a No-Go.

One of the best boats in SL

Here's a review of my wife Lailantie Core-Amat who bought the boat inworld:

The Wave Dancer is the absolute best boat I've ever had. You can control the volume of the motor. Most motor boats are way too loud for me, so I have to turn down my sounds almost fully and can't hear the other environment sounds anymore. When you ride, the boat actually dances on the water and you get a real boat feeling. It doesn't take much space to turn around, you can turn even in small channels. At a speed of 5 knots it handles all region crossings very well. If something goes wrong, the boat stops and sends you a tp. It remains fully functional, not even the camera position gets messed up.

Speaking of camera, I like the ability to adjust it and save it to four slots. If the adjustment buttons aren't enough, you just scroll a bit away with the mouse wheel and the camera will stay in the position you just chose! I also like the ability to control your speed in many tiny steps. If you want to look at your map or explore the environment, you can go very slow and don't have to moor. There's a lot of other realistic board equipment like radar (it spots seagulls!), having to take care of the battery (never leave the lights on when the engine is down), you need to refuel from time to time, and much more.

The customization is a bit unfamiliar first. Working with the tiny boat model to choose the faces, then back to the boat requires a lot of precise camera movement which can become tiring soon - but it works fine. You can also make custom textures, and what I really like - all the information goes into your HUD, so whenever you have to rez a new boat you can easily load your favourite texture set, your camera positions and whatever you already adjusted and saved to the HUD.

The only thing I miss is a working swimdeck and the possibility to go for a swim from time to time.

Five starts from me, too :-)

Detail nice but hard to manuever...

I researched quite a few cabin cruisers before buying the "Wave Dancer". It has some nice features such as a nicelt detailed and appointed interior, some neat "realism" remands such as battery drain when the motor isn't on, gearing and operating temps. What I DON'T like is the VERY constrained camera views. Unless you are all about first person and basically "Mouselook" this boat is hard to enjoy. I own many other boats in SL that offer a nice "third person" view. This boat does not. It offers and adjustable camera HUD but it only gives a few meters to play with, no fixed option and no overhead view. It really soured my experience. I liked it "ok" on the open water but docking with the limited camera views and trying to enjoy the scenery can be a nightmare.
