Draw clothes, skins, tattoos or whatever you want, directly onto the SL avatar model! Texture design software for Windows (XP, Vista, Win7, Win8; 32 or 64 bit).

It's been nearly 10 years since I first released AvPainter, and now it's time to say goodbye. I will no longer be able to offer any support, and there's no further development planned, so I'm making the software available to everyone for no charge.

Current owners, you can download the new version using the url you previously used. Re-rez your AvPainter Computer object in world to get the url again.

AvPainter is a tool to aid the creation of clothing for Second Life, allowing you to preview clothes and draw directly onto the avatar model. It is a separate application that runs in Windows, outside of Second Life, exporting targa (.tga) texture files to upload into SL.

You buy the AvPainter package which contains these instructions and a AvPainter Computer. The AvPainter Computer is a stylish computer model that you can keep out in your SL home if you wish. On rezzing, the AvPainter Computer will give you your own registration code and url for downloading the full version.

The full version of AvPainter occasionally checks for updates. You will be able to download any updates for AvPainter for no extra charge.

Although they can run side by side, AvPainter runs best without SL running. SL tends to grab a lot of texture memory and slows AvPainter a lot.

Well this item is heavy overpriced. I teach PS Classes in SL, and some girls in my cloth classes told me about it, so I thought i gave it a shot, cuse if it makes your life easier why not :) As RL Graphicer im always critical with purchasin stuff like that. This Example shows me im right again, nothin goes over ps and knowledge, even Gimp and i really hate gimp can do it better.

The options here are completly out of the questions, you have 2 bars for sensi/hardness
& brush size, jesus christ if i only need that in SL to become an designer then congratulations :)

The only plus here, i can render my stuff directly on this mannequin this i can do with other programs too, and this with more options and effects.

Resume : 2 stars cuse i never had so much fun and could laugh about an product like this. I told my classes not to buy these cuse its useless :) Have a nice day.

I've been trying to think for a few months now of what on earth to say about this product and words just fail me - it simply is just the best thing since sliced bread!

While I agree, this is a great preview tool and good for touchups, it would be much better if it had a couple of additional features.

If we could "slide" an imported texture around the 3d model, like for example, import in a tattoo or logo, and then place it exactly where you want to on the model by moving it around. Independant of where on the body would be great (not limited to either top, bottom, etc).

If we could import more than one layer of texture onto the 3d model, and order the layers, much like the layer order of photoshop (and by this I dont mean, import a top, and them import a bottom. I mean, import 2 textures anywhere and move them anywhere).

Text options would be great too.

What would really ROCK would be to make a photoshop plugin out of this.

This is a excelent tool for any beginner SL Clothing Designer. Althought a bit costly (And the fact that at the moment only supports tga) the cost will go after you sell more clothings, (which you could have spotted mistakes with as you upload em (making you waste quite a bit of Linden on Uploading-test clothing). It is a great tool for laying down template lines or rough draft "sketches" of what the clothing should look like (for example, painting straight lines will look much different on 2D than in 3D and viceversa, but this tool allows you to see the areas that need "fixing" (like seams) before you waste L uploading a no-good texture.).

But it should not be a tool to replace graphical software that you already have :). It doesnt support pressure sensetivity on tablet however, and the coloring system could use a little touch up thus It only works great when you lay down a rough sketch with the program, and export that sketch to your graphic software, and then build upon it with it (aka: Making textures, shading, coloring nje. etc etc) and then preview it again.

In Summary: Great tool for SL Design Beginers, but do not expect to be able to whip out pro material with just this. (unless you want to spend more hours than neccessary to make on with this, its IMO much faster to make it in photoshop as it has pressure sencetivity for my tablet :D) Its Small size allows it to be transported, to, for example a office (just remember at work to have clothing already made XD, you dont want your boss seeing you working on bewbs now do we? XD)
So i give it a 4/5 :)

*update* The New version rocks due to the fact that now it has pressure support AND more file formats :). Makes making stuff MUCH faster:)
Rating upped to 5/5
