CLEARANCE - 90% OFF! Montagne Noire - Deuil Noire 1830-1869 Victorian mourning dress, hat & veil - "Romantic"
Montagne Noire Clothiers presents Deuil Noire (French, "black mourning"), a line of 19th century ladies mourning garments. Our gown series is an interpretation of the four prominent gown silhouettes of the 19th century: Empire, Romantic, Princess and Belle Epoque.
The "Romantic" gown seen here reflects the crinoline or "hoop" skirt of the early to mid-Victorian era, from approximately 1830-1869. This version features the loose bell shaped sleeves that came into fashion for a time during this era.
The hat features black ostrich feathers and a long crepe veil at the back. A shorter, detachable veil for the face is also included.
The "Romantic" gown is modifiable, allowing you to tailor the garment to your proportions. The bonnet and wigs are copy/modify.
The custom of wearing black when mourning is said to date back to the Roman Empire, but the height of formal mourning customs and attire belong to the 19th century during the reign of Queen Victoria.
Montagne Noire specializes in historically authentic ladies and gentlemen's clothing and related merchandise. Our focus is Victorian and American West fashion of the late 19th century.

I bought this for the hat and veil. Unfortunately, the workmanship on both is very shoddy, and since the items are no-copy, you cannot make a copy and try to fix them up (working on the original is not an option for obvious reasons). Disappointed, wouldn't buy again.
Fabulous!
Nowadays, we see a lot of Neo-Victorian clothing on the market, but it's rare to see period fashion - especially executed with such attention to detail. I bought this set as a lark, and immediately rushed back to buy the other three in the set (and to drop this review). The style is delightful, the "cuts" are historically immaculate and (unlike many such outfits) there were relatively few pieces to have to pile on the avatar.
My only bit of trouble was related to the hat. Due to the attached flexi-prim train, the center of the object is somewhere around the base of the avatar's ribs. This means the camera needs to be zoomed way out when adjusting (my avatar's proportions made a re-size necessary), making it a bit fiddly when lining the hat up on my head. This was simply a matter of a few moments of zooming in and out, though, and the rest of the product was a delight!
It's a shame this product will be "retiring soon." In the meantime, I will be recommending these sets to my friends.
PS: These dresses also have what must be the most informative note-card I've ever purchased with a piece of clothing! ^_^
