A Genuine Carbon Copy: PT109

Take command of a fine 20th Century naval craft and patrol the oceans ready to attack enemy ships, both surface and undersea targets. Alternatively, forget comb at missions and just cruise around looking stylish in a powerfully engined WW2 patrol boat.
The build reproduces the PT-109. This was a PT boat (Patrol Torpedo Boat) last commanded by Lieutenant, junior grade (LTJG) John F. Kennedy (later President of the United States) in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Kennedy's actions to save his surviving crew after the sinking of the PT-109 made him a war hero, which proved helpful in his political career. Wikipedia has a comprehensive and detailed page on the boat which is worth a read for background data - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_Torpedo_Boat_PT-109

Step into the command position at the helm of this fine craft, lovingly restored with original fittings from a few rusting pixels discovered languishing somewhere in the waters off the Solomon Islands, and experience the thrill of commanding such a powerful and well armed fighting machine.

You can fire up the engine and listen to the powerful diesels throb smoothly beneath your feet and using the appropriate buttons, sound the klaxon attack horn, lay down a virtual smoke screen (depending on the particle count limits wherever you are sailing, and even use the searchlight while out on night patrol. The HUD also reports speed in knots and compass heading on-screen.

The craft is provided with stepped speed control so there is no need to keep the up arrow pressed Anything over 3rd gear will lift the bow out of the water and throw up an impressive wake. Page Down key will execute an emergency stop and set the engines immediately to Stop.

The principle armaments work when you are in a rez permitted region - torpedoes can be fired singly or in salvo and will explode on impact with any ship or target within a range of approximately 160m. After this distance, the torpedo will run dry and vanish.
Depth charges can also be fired either singly or together with detonation either at a fixed depth of 9.5m (z = 10.500 in global terms), or on contact with a target.
If you attempt to launch armaments in Linden water it will not affect the boat's operation, you will simply receive an alert telling you that the land owner does not permit rezzing.

Due to the limitations of SL and scripting the boat has to be set to phantom to permit firing of live torpedoes - they have a nasty habit of exploding on leaving the tubes otherwise. As yet the craft has not been fitted out with VICE or any other combat system scripting - it may happen at some point in the future.

CONTROLS
Up arrow - Forward (in 8 speed steps)
Down arrow - Slow/Reverse
Left/right arrow - steer
Page Down - Emergency Full Engines stop

The HUD controls, which are clearly labelled, are hopefully self explanatory and should activate the various functioning parts by moving your cursor over the appropriate button and left clicking.

View controls are also included to provide different views of the craft while you operate it- 3 standard view Top, Drive, and Far.There are also three further view settings - Side, Rear, and Spin, which makes the camera rotate around the boat. These three view settings are timed and will revert to the default view on completion.

A passenger position has been set close to the command position but the commander should get on-board first to ensure correct positioning.

Binoculars are provided in the folder with built-in animation for you to use. Just 'wear' and they will attach to your left hand and animate a random look through them.
Your passenger will also be provided with optional binoculars to use. They will not appear in your passenger's Inventory and only last until detached. A replacement copy will be rezzed each time a passenger sits.

I've been working at the boat for a while and sweating blood over the scripting to get the boat working as I want. Hopefully there are no glitches caused by my amateur script efforts, but be warned, thanks to LL constraints, region crossing remains fraught with danger and there are probably a few beta versions of the boat already littering the seabed, and providing a home for fishes and other marine life, from crashes during an extensive sea trials phase.

Anyhow, I hope it meets with satisfaction and you can give it a good Marketplace rating. Get in touch if there are any glaring issues or problems you experience so that I can try to assist in making adjustments/improvements.

I hope you like it. Happy hunting.

Saw this and said looks nice and got it, its nice driving boat, I don't really care for boats but every now and them I'll grab one just cause I got water to drive on in my sims gotta milk the lad for all I can seeing how much LL charges for tier. this is nice not really laggy cause its lacks all the combat scripting and not some mesh boat pulled in from turbo squid its sculpted prims so no graphics lag from high face model. The PT boats one my fave navy boats, this ones cool, it even holds more than one person. Combat system not needed cause most of the linden water sims you cannot rez anyway. the combat sim won't elt you use it there cause you have to use their crap, and want that nonsence I'll go play MW3 of BF3 instead real combat games instead of SL's it could use a few more seats postions on it so your can take a few friends along on the ride..
