Chateau d'Hougoumont is a recreation of a Belgian farm that was originally built by the Knights of Malta between 1358 and 1474 of sandstone and red brick. It became pivotal in the Battle of Waterloo in June 1815. Over the course of the battle, the French forces committed an estimated 14,000 troops and the English and their allies committed an estimated 12,000 troops to the battle around the farm buildings. The farm is now in ruins but it is undergoing some restoration so it can be the site of the 200th commemoration of the Battle of Waterloo in June of 2015.
We have attempted to build an accurate recreation of the way the Chateau and it's surround buildings looked when the battle began. The building interiors are not recreations as there are no existing plans of the interiors. Room size was designed for ease of avatar camera view.
The front half of the chateau complex consists of six buildings with connecting walls and gates and a large external garden on a 46m x 60m base.
* The main chateau house has four lower level rooms plus two large rooms on the upper level. It also has a two room attached farmers house with a loft and fireplace in one room. There are three doors for entry into the chateau.
* The gardeners house has one large lower room plus three upper level rooms in the two story section and an attached single story small house with a loft. It also has the main gate for entry into the chateau area.
* The small stable has three rooms with separate single doors
* The medium stable has an office area with a single door and a 9 tall stable area with both a single and a large double door. It also has a loft that runs the length of the building with an access ladder in the office area.
The buildings are all designed to be use as a complete walled farm or as stand alone buildings. Everything is modify and copy, but no transfer.
The accessory box contains some furniture, tapestries, fire places, crates and barrels, shelves, horses, wagons and other accessories.
