Fox & Hounds

In this game for 2 players, which is known by a variety of names, 4 'hounds' attempt to prevent a 'fox' from crossing from one side of a standard chessboard to the other, all moving on just the dark squares.

The hounds can only move forward diagonally one square. The fox can move forward or backward diagonally one square. The play alternates with the fox moving first. The fox is trapped when it has no move left to make.

The pieces are moved by clicking the part which faces the chosen direction of movement, and illegal moves are prevented with reasons given in chat.

The board has a choice of two textures: one in wood veneer, and one in marble blocks, all with unique patterns taken from the same original texture, and precisely crafted to their correct positions on the board, which is edged with a gold moulding texture. The hounds are made from African Blackwood with optional gold numbers superimposed, and the fox from Obeche.

The movements are all accompanied by authentic sound effects.
