Those two HUDs were born out of my needs during sailing. They usefully show my position, my course, and my speed with several useful information. Also, they came helpful during my grid rides across the mainland. However, they are less useful in flying for a straightforward reason; planes are too fast for the MAP HUD.
When two NAV HUD and MAP HUD are used together, Map HUD will show the waypoint as long as it is in the current sim on the map with a green cycle. It will change as the waypoints change.
NAV HUD:
Drop a USB compatible route notecard into the HUD, and it will pass it automatically. Then it will ask in local chat which one to load. Just enter the number before the notecard name, and it will parse and load the waypoints. Click on the big arrow, pointing right to go forward. Clicking on the small arrow pointing left is to go back in the waypoint list.
There are two NAV HUDS: they are the same in functionality, but one uses RLV not to open the main map, and the other HUD doesn't use RLV and lets the main map open every time it sets a point. Also, when you get 5 meters of the destination point, it will set the next point automatically.
MAP HUD:
The three versions are entirely the same in functionality. The only difference is the script counts inside them. The Fat version has the most script count, but it handles the rapid sim crossings the best. The Middle version has the middle in the script count. The Light version has the least script count. However, after several sim crossings, it starts to haywire.
When you attach the hud, it will only show up as a RED LINE on your screen. Click on it to activate it. When activated, it will load map textures for the sims. If there is no sim, then that square will be in light gray. A small red dot shows your position on the sim. When you move, it will show where you are moving.
Also, the HUD will show the below information:
- Ground Elevation:
- Water Elevation:
- Elevation (From the zero point)
- Elevation (From the ground elevation)
- Water Depth
- Speed in m/s, km/h, knot
Because of the lack of proper rounding in SL, sometimes those values may change up and down slightly.
There are several clickable sections on the MAP hud:
- Clicking on the right top corner causes the map texture type to object or terrain. The object is the default. Object map texture tends to be more useful.
- Clicking on the left bottom corner causes the MAP HUD to request all map textures from scratch. Don't push it too much, or SL limits will kick in.
- Clicking on the left top corner causes the MAP HUD to use the camera alignment to rotate the dot. It helps you have the bearing of your boat or car while not moving.
MAP HUD has a notecard named "config" inside to help you with configuration:
- Color=<0.667, 0.667, 0.667> (Any combination in http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Category:LSL_Color can be used. Colors notecard has basic examples.)
- Alpha=0.95 (HUD alpha. %95 opacity is the default. I don't recommend setting it less than 80%. Below that, it becomes hard to see the map.)
- Mode=object (Map texture mode: object for object maps, terrain for terrain maps.)
- Camera=on (on for using the camera for dot alignment, off for using only the movement.)
