----------
April 21 2014 - I just gave away my 5000th copy of the MEV v2 and to celebrate I've just this moment put up version 3. It's down there near the bottom of this listing if you're interested.
----------
A while back I was really really bored - it was Boxing day and all my typical SL haunts were deserted - so I threw together my original My Eye View camera HUD. Mostly because I got really tired of spending all that money on shoes and never being able to see them when I was walking. Hey vanity can be useful.
It turned out to be fairly popular - especially with folks who are using non-standard sized avatars. I suppose if I couldn't see below my knees, and a petite avatar only comes up to my knees, then they could have a - err... Bigger problem than I did.
To celebrate Marketplace's new Direct Delivery system - that is to say "because some time soon the old reliable Magic Boxes will stop working" - I've got a new version which, after much thought and soul searching, I've decided to christen "My Eye View v2.0".
All this clever doo dad does is give you some control over your camera's position. Instead of looking down on your avatar it places the camera lower and lets you pan up and down, and zoom in and out to suit your preferences. The HUD keeps the camera at that location so you can move around and not have it snap back to the default position. Hitting the Esc key will return the camera to the position you've set with the HUD as well.
There are two other functions that I quite like but have a tough time explaining - scripters should never write documentation or marketing copy :)
The first is what I call Camera Float. This is the button on the far right hand side of the HUD. When it's activated the HUD lets your camera float around behind you as you move, so when you start to walk it takes a moment for the camera to start moving, then when you stop it takes a moment to catch up and stop. There are four settings - off, low, medium, and high, and it's probably easier if you just click it and walk around some than for me to keep babbling about it. It's cool, try it :)
The other function is new for version 2.0 and I call it Auto-Pan. It's the button on the lower left corner of the HUD. When it's turned on it simply causes the camera to snap up or down as you're climbing or descending an incline. Just like you'd look up when climbing a flight of stairs. Auto-Pan only works when you're walking, running, or crouch walking so it won't be making you airsick when you're flying - or seasick when you're swimming :)
So that's the MEV 2.0 - ohhh, a cool sounding acronym - have fun, tell you friends, wake the neighbors and phone the kids :)
excellent work
thank you 5+5 stars
Thank you
Okay, so this man/woman is a genius. I have been looking for this type of thing for YEARS and have never found anything to work perfectly with child avatars etc. I found this, and was like hmm... Will this work? So I was surprised to see it was free, I tried it on SL, and it worked almost better then what I had pictured my perfect camera changer would be. This person should sell this for a price, but I honestly can't thank this person enough for creating it for free!
THANK YOU!
Highest praise
Even though I am constantly adjusting my camera to compensate for the current situation, I never get used to it. It's a pain. But this is the nature of SL and one comes to accept it (Not). Anything that helps reduce the time I spend with my fingers on the keyboard is greatly appreciated. And this fantastic little device does just that.
It is perfectly conceived and executed, with little room for improvement. I'd perhaps make the power button smaller (to conserve space) and the control buttons larger (for those of us with vision issues). But this is a minor quibble, not a problem. It might be nice to expand the Pan feature to Pan & Scan so you could raise/lower the POV (in addition to simply rotating it). But hey, I'm a nitpicker.
The Auto-Pan feature was a stroke of genius. I've used other devices that pull your view in tight for use with tiny avs but none had this clever option. It is something I've often desired and I would use this HUD if that were its only function. It's especially useful on those annoying spiral staircases that people insist on building.
You really have to wonder why the Lindens never bother to incorporate features like this right into the viewer (psst, Firestorm, you reading this?). I got this HUD for my petite av but immediately saw the value of leaving it in place full time. Thank you so much for doing what the Lindens should have done from the start. And thank you for making it free.
WooT \o/ I can see muh feet ***Petite Avatar Must***
If you run a Petite avatar you need this, period.. Simple and effective.. You will see your feet.
Genius!
Ever since I lucked upon your little invention (My Eye View HUD #1) I can no longer imagine how I functioned in SL with that unrealistic view of our "virtual world" looking down on my scalp from Gods perspective. I found myself strangely trying to peer above and around the top and sides of my computer screen until I would remember that I had to constantly stop, grab my mouse then adjust my field of vision manually. Quite irritating. You have taken much of the irritation out of SL. Thank you so much for you genius insight. Now ...can you make a HUD to rid SL of all the BS and ...well you know...lol.
Perfect
I can't begin to even tell you how happy I am with this product and it's for free...amazing. My avi is shorter than most and a friend built me a house to scale and until I found this I felt extremely closed in due tot he low ceilings. But now everything is perfect and it works so smoothly you don't even know your wearing it. Thank you so so much!
