The hold animations are high-priority (maybe level 5 or 6) and very different from each other. You can carry the staff beside you, point it up vertically, lift it above, or hold it across in front.
While it's not Animesh, the lantern sways subtly using classic prim key frames; its orientation changes automatically to match the hold animations. The staff does indeed have Modify permission, letting you tint and stretch it as desired.
Finally, the staff comes with no HUD. Instead, accessing the textures and animations is done by clicking the staff, which may be a pro or con for you.
