Raven Parrot (Lophopsittacus mauritianus)
The Raven Parrot ( Lophopsittacus mauritianus) also known as the Broad-billed Parrot and sometimes confusingly as the Indian Ravem, is an extinct bird species.
This is a small pack that features a:
- 1 land impact 3D mesh Raven Parrot (silent)
- 1 land impact 3D mesh Raven Parrot (that will randomly give its call). I created a unique, but plausible call for this bird by slightly altering the call of its close living relatives.
- 4 land impact museum 3D Raven Parrot specimen, complete with a glass casing and plaque (see screenshots).
This large parrot was native to Mauritius and first discovered by Dutch settlers and sailors in the 17th century. It was dubbed the "Raven", probably because of its dark plumage.
This parrot possessed a distinct frontal crest of feathers on its head. Ridges on the skull indicate that this crest was firmly attached, and that the bird, unlike cockatoos, could not raise or lower it. It lived in the dense torpical forest of Mauritius, feeding probably on nuts and fruit.
As many other birds of Mauritius, it went extinct in the latter part of the 17th century as a result of the introduction of invasive species such as rats of macaques.
Second life allows us to bring this wonderful brid back to life.
Enjoy!
