In the back of the forge, where sparks hopped like fireflies, little Grunka the Bonca decided she needed a shield—not a clunky dinner-table lid like the big warriors used, but something fast.
She stole a moon-thin sheet of steel while the blacksmith wasn’t looking and hammered it with surprising patience. Tap tap tap. She folded it. Hammered again. Folded again. The metal grew tougher every time, like it was learning her stubbornness. The wood she got from chieftains kitchen.(he misses his most loved magic wood food plate still)
For the core, to glue it all, she mixed spider silk, pine resin, and a secret ingredient: spite. “For balance,” she said, nodding wisely.
When she was done, the buckler was thin as a pancake but rang like a bell when struck. Grunka strapped it on, gave it a punch, and grinned as it bounced her fist right back.
“Perfect,” she said. “Light enough to dance. Strong enough to say no.”
Then she ran outside to show the world that small orcs bounce hardest.
