The term "Sinclair hilt saber" refers to a type of cutlass or short sword with a distinctive hilt design, commonly associated with a 16th and early 17th-century European military context. (mostly people, who worked for navy or marine)
The name "Sinclair Saber" is derived from a Victorian-era misconception that this sword type was used by a Scottish mercenary captain, George Sinclair, who led an expedition of Scotsmen in 1612. The group was ambushed and killed by Norwegian militia while en route to offer their services to Sweden.
Although the historical connection is debated and considered erroneous by some scholars, the name has persisted in the historical fencing and reenactment communities.
