Speed Checker

Speed Checker is a road sign which displays both the chosen speed limit and the current speed of an approaching agent. When no agent is detected, the sign displays the speed limit in blue, which is by default 20mph, but can be changed manually by the owner in the Object Description field. When an agent is detected approaching within the chosen range, the speed is shown in green if below the limit, and in red if above the limit, and updated at 1 second intervals. A beacon at the top of the post also flashes with corresponding colours, and the backboard changes to show either 'SPEED LIMIT', or 'YOUR SPEED', or 'SLOW DOWN'.

To improve stability, a feature of the speed processing is that the speed is progressively averaged during the current sensing period instead of merely reporting instantaneous values. If the agent stops moving during the sensing period the display will blank out rather than dropping to zero. At the end of the sensing period, a built-in 2-second delay allows the display to report the final average before reverting to the speed limit.

All texture handling is done by offset scripting, so there are no changing graphic rez delays.

To change speed units, detection range, or detection angle, the owner clicks the sign and selects from a dialogue box.

The device is fully modifiable apart from the scripts and speed colours. Custom changes to the latter may be requested without additional charge.
* To change the background colour of the sign, the upper part of the sign is selected using 'Edit Linked' and texture colour changed.
* To change the height of the sign, the post is selected using 'Edit Linked' and changed with Begin Slice (by default 0.25).
