FAST Fly/Swim/Land HUD

Auto-attaches and detaches folders
triggered by flying, swimming and landing.

Requires an R L V enabled viewer, like Firestorm.

This incredibly useful HUD uses three folders created in your inventory: One for flying, one for under water, and one for on land. When your status changes, the appropriate folder's contents is automatically attached, and the others are detached. You can have from one (well, none actually) to as many items as you want in each folder. Clothing, attachments, other HUDs... anything that you can wear or attach.

This is a better way than making things invisible, and can be used on anything even if it is no-mod. Wearing invisible attachments can cause issues, like people accidentally clicking on them, not to mention your render cost.

I have one configured with an entire merman setup that is attached as soon as I enter water (and my legs in the land folder are removed). Likewise wings when I fly. You could have it attach your SCUBA gear when you dive, or a jetpack when you fly.

All you need to do is create a folder tree in your inventory, starting with #RLV (you might already have this), then the subfolder for the HUD. The default is .FASTfly - note the leading period (don't miss it out) and the case must match too. Under that subfolder, create three subfolders called fly, land and swim. Those are where you can copy your items that you want attaching. Or, usually better, copy them as links into the subfolders.

That's it - you're ready to rock. Attach the HUD and go flying and diving.

You can configure multiple HUDs (for different outfits/avatars/whatever) that have their own base subfolders for different setups. To do that, rez a HUD on the ground and edit the Description field. Enter the base subfolder name you want to use, for example .MyFASTfly2 - again note the leading period (you must have it there) and make sure the case matches with the folder you actually create. I suggest you rename the HUD too, so you know what it is for, then take it back. Make your three subfolders under the new base subfolder as you did above, and put yout items in them.

The appropriate button icon on the HUD will highlight green when that folder is atatched.

You can lock a folder on, and stop detecting your current status (a.k.a. manual mode), by clicking the button on the HUD. The outline will change to red. To change it, click another button. To cancel this and go back to automatic, click the same, red-highlighted button again.

To access the menu, long-press anywhere on the HUD (>1,5s). The dialog has a large number of configuration options:

• HUD orientation: Vertical or Horizontal for your convenience.
• Water entry level adjustment: useful if you have a very large or very small avatar.
• Water level hysterisis: How much change in position is needed to change status; prevents rapidly flicking from swim to land if you are bobbing at the surface.
• Attach Order: Attach before detach, or detach before attach.
• Fly Underwater: Allow switching to fly status if flying while underwater.
• Status Check Period: How often to check your status (0.5s is good, but you might disagree).
• HUD Lock: Lock the HUD to the screen even if you change outfits. It cannot be detached, not even manually, until you unlock it again.

The default settings for the above adjustments are most likely just right, but you might want to tweak them in some circumstances. You don't *need* to change any of the above to use the HUD. All you need to do is create the folders and copy your items in.

The HUD is mod perms and each picture is a different face, so you can change them if you wish.

Note that this HUD relies on the R L V system; that s the only way to access your inventory from a script. It does *not* do anything else R L V related and is perfectly safe to use.

Please understand that it isn't realistic to make a demo of this, without just making it a full product. The HUD does exactly what it ways in the advert. Any problems or questions, just give me a shout in world. I'm rarely more than a day away from SL.

The HUD will not attach the flying folder when you fall, unless you were previously flying and clicked 'stop flying' in mid air.

  • Auto attach a folder's entire contents and detach others
  • Folders for Flying, underwater and on land
  • Extensive configuration and 'tweaking' menu
  • Requires R L V
  • HUD can be locked on screen
