Take a trip over SL on a hyper realistic Steam Traction Engine! Or take people on tours of SL. Or of your own land.

Warning! This is a mesh product and will require a mesh viewer.

DEMO: If you decide you might like this item I would highly recommend that you come to my inworld store and pick up a copy of the free demo and give it a try it is important to understand this is a very complex advanced technical vehicle.

This steam traction engine handles as it would in real life. Operating this vehicle will require some learning and understanding of how steam engines work.

The steam traction engine will simulate steam pressure temperature coal fuel water level and power output. If you like steam engines in real life you will love this all most every part is touch interactive from the boiler door to the resetting of the pressure release safety valve. Also every thing can be visualized and controlled with the on screen HUD. The steam pressure will govern how fast the steam engine will rotate and how much power the engine will produce at the wheels.

The boilers maximum steam pressure is 75 psi the pressure release valve will blow at 81
The boilers maximum temperature is 230 degrees Fahrenheit
The engines maximum horse power rating is 8 hp

You must have sufficient steam pressure to run the engine around 21 psi will produce 1 hp and 75 psi will produce 8 hp (Basically the more pressure you build up the faster you go)

You must have at lest 5 psi to run the steam whistle

Important please continue reading or you may not be able to operate this vehicle.

Usage (Every thing is touch interactive and HUD controlled)

I will start with the basic control keys

Left Arrow or A – Turns Left

Right Arrow or D – Turns Right

Turning is incremental meaning that when you press the turning key down the turning ratio will increment 1 time pressing it again will increment it more. The Turning radio will be held in place automatically so you can turn and take you finger off the control key and the traction engine will stay in that turning ratio. To stop turning you press the opposite turning control key until the wheels point straight ahead. In all the are 4 turning steps left and 4 turning steps right there is also a turning meter on the HUD that will show you where your turning level is. The turning level will turn red while you are in any stage of turning and white when its pointing straight ahead. “This is much different to controlling other vehicles in second life I would allow your self some time to get used to the way it works”.

Up Arrow or W - Changes your pose and sitting position toggle up 1

Down Arrow or S - Changes your pose and sitting position toggle down 1

Page Up – Will increase the main valve tap in the open direction.

Page Down – Will decrease the main valve tap in the closed direction.

1 Start the fire ether by opening the boiler door and clicking on the fire prim or by simply clicking on the HUD. It is important to understand that it will take a few minutes before you can build up enough pressure inside the boiler to run the engine. This is not a simple jump on and go vehicle this has been designed and programmed so that a full steam simulation can be experienced.

2 Turn on the main inlet valve this is the small Black valve tap on the HUD simply click this once to turn it on and off (You must have at lest 21 psi to turn the engine) the more pressure you build up in the boiler the faster the steam engine will turn and the faster the traction engine will travel. (But Don’t expect to be winning any races with this thing its top speed is around 9Mph).

3 On the HUD you will see a large Red Steam valve tap this is used to regulated the amount of steam pressure going to the engine to control how fast you will move so basically this works kind of the same as the accelerator pedal in your RL car to use this valve simply click and hold your mouse down on the top area on the valve and drag left to open and right to close this may take abit of getting used to but don’t stress I am always available to answer any questions about this vehicles operation. You may also use page up or page down to control this valve tap.

For those who love steam

In a way, it's perfect. All the bits of having a fire, controlling the pressure, water level, fuel and all the other joys minutiae of working with steam are replicated here. It's big and slow and gets compliments; people enjoy seeing it usually if you happen to drive past. It's for the most part enormous fun to drive. I took it on a long leisurely cruise down Route 8 and noticed a few small annoyances. For one, the steering could be unresponsive at moments. Making small changes is hard, as you'd hit the key to turn then to cancel as you only want to change by a few degrees and what usually happens is it ignores one of the key presses. Sometimes the first, sometimes the cancel and you end up turning the wrong way or the turn keeps on going on. The most annoying thing was that on a long straight I would line it up carefully and it would have the slightest of turns to the right, I could be going straight in the left lane and passing through the oncoming vehicles and after a distance I'll be over in the right lane. Personally I find the tap to turn and tap to cancel is a good replica of the slow turning of them, but I would like to see it respond promptly, even on an empty sim with nothing else running or set up.
I still feel that for the replication of driving and running one as well as the detail it's worth the five stars, no other traction engine comes close.

It is by far THE most realistic thing I have ever driven in SL, the scripting is amazing, the handling, the way this build was executed drums up the need to create a medal just to present to the maker.
Brovo, Anaconda. I look forward to every build you make!

Very realistic

What? You mean it doesn't fly? All the other land vehicles in SL fly! I am being sarcastic of course. If you are looking for a race car - this is not it (unless you plan on racing a snail). This tractor is very realistic. It is highly detailed and the operation is very much like the real thing would be. Personally, I feel that unless it is some sort of sci fi or magical vehicle, it should try as much as possible to reflect RL. This tractor does that. It is a lot of fun. The trailer works well with it, and carries up to 8 passengers. It would be great for providing tours of your sim. At the price, this is a great bargain.
