The Atomic Owl Steampunk Scene is a stage created for steampunk photos (or open-air living, if you choose). It is a small three-sided house with one open side for ease of camming while taking photos.
PERMISSIONS AND FEATURES:
The scene is no modify and no copy but IS transfer so you can give it as a gift. To keep things as flexible as possible, there is no pose in the desk stool (though it is sittable) and also no built-in light source -- add your own gaslights, poseballs, props, etc.
The WINDOWSILL and the WINDOW are clickable. Click the windowsill to change the landscape view -- there are 20 shots loaded into the window from steampunk, Victorian and natural areas of SL. I took all these photographs myself in various locations around the grid and aimed for a range of settings and atmospheres. There is also a transparent texture in the window if you want no landscape. The windows themselves also open and shut -- just click the window.
Keep reading for more info about the artistic details and about the Armada Breakaway sim.
** Thanks to Rach Borkotron for helping out, contributing some key textural elements, and for just generally being game to hang out and support a very picky builder (me). **
Thanks,

THE DETAILS:
This scene was created as a hunt prize for the first gridwide STEAM Hunt back in 2009. At the time, my store Atomic Owl was located in the Armada Breakaway sim (more info below), which -- as far as I know -- is still around.
About Armada Breakaway: Armada Breakaway is a floating steampunk pirate city built on the bones of boats. Inspired by the works of British Wierd Fiction author China Mieville, Armada is a small but enthusiastic community of individuals from all corners of Second Life. Everyone is welcome, from urchin child avatars to furries to vampires and beyond -- Mieville's original city of Armada is home to many many races and cultures outside the everyday human, including cactus men and women with scarab beetles for heads. Roleplay is quite light and entirely optional, and the build itself is a pleasure to wander. There is a steampunk carnival (events are usually every Sunday) and also a community of dark mer who live beneath the floating hulls. I hope you enjoy your visit, even if you just pass through quickly as you hunt.
About the books on the desk: These are some of my favorite books, as well as some of the foundational pieces of steampunk literature. HG Wells, Jules Verne, Darwin, C. L. Moore -- there is a spirit of adventure and an analytical curiousity about the natural world and the creatures in it found in these books. Treasure Island is a pirate classic -- for me, living in Armada, pirates and steampunk were wrapped up together. Shakespeare and Sherlock -- well, c'mon. And, of course, the Scar by China Mieville (just one of his novels) was an ongoing inspiration for the things I built and create and imagine in Second Life.
About the wall art: These are pieces by artists I admire and I want to give them credit: Don Hosho (Ahmad Hosho in SL) creates awesome multicultural steampunk portraits. You can see more of his work at http://donhosho.deviantart.com/ or by checking out the links in his profile picks. Lillian Shippe is the proprietress of Miss Shippe's Studio (once located on the upper deck of the Atomic Owl ship while it was still afloat) -- SL through her sepia eye is a wonder to behold. Walton Ford's elephant is one of his many animal portraits that is dripping in symbolism -- every bird means something, every detail is deliberate. The robot sketch is just something I did, and the map on the wall was created by Mary Elizabeth at art.com. I hope you enjoy these small details.
About the window landscapes: These photos were taken all around steampunk and natural locations in Second Life. I was an active SL photographer and my Flickr stream is www.flickr.com/photos/makokungfu (also in the web tab of my profile). Most photos use windlight settings by Mescaline Tammas. Locations include: Armada Breakaway, Drowsy, Caledon, Fort Weka, Black Spot, New Babbage, Steelhead, Elliott and the Wastelands.
If you've made it to the end of this text, I salute you. Cheers!
