The "Auguste" service is composed of replicas after the Viennese Sachsen-Teschen Service, one of the most lavish silver services surviving from late 18eme century.
Comisioned by the Duke and Duchesse of Teschen (Queen Marie Antoinette's sister) the design, (bing the goldsmith Ignaz Joseph Würth) is purely French neoclassical, decorated with flutted and geek friezes
The top presents a sumptuous decoration around themes of human harvesting, trophies of seafood, algaes, fruits and various vegetables.
Three examples of 18th century designs for napkins are also included according to the fashion among the aristocracy of folding napkins into complex designs, merely to delight the eye until the time of unfolding them for dinner, the epitome of ephemeral art.

MORE PERFECTION
YES finally it is here! Another C&G masterpiece - awaited, as always, with bated breath. I was apparently the first person to buy this (which doesn't surprise me) and of course I was utterly blown away by the amazing quality, the perfection of modelling, gorgeous textures, etc etc etc. A level of excellence that could not be reached by many. It's another incredible piece.
