A Baroque wooden square frame, finely carved and gilded, ideal for square paintings and portraits. The picture is replaceable.

The original painting is the portrait of Mrs Salesbury with her grandchildren Edward and Elizabeth Bagot, painted in 1675 by John Michael Wright. This family painting was commissioned to Wright by a Staffordshire gentleman, Sir Walter Bagot (1644-1704) of Blithfield, near Rugeley, along with six other portraits. Today, the painting is located in the Tate Gallery.

John Michael Wright (1617-1694) was an English and Scottish portrait painter trained in Edinburgh, with considerable reputation in Rome as an artist and scholar. He worked for Archduke Leopold Wilhelm of Austria, as court painter in England and as an english ambassador to Pope Innocent XI.
