Hjortspring Boat

Bronze and Iron age rowing boat replica - scripted to provide the ultimate sailing experience on Second Life waters. The boat can piloted by anyone and can be rezzed as a temporary boat from the supplied rezzer.

The boat has natural padeling animation adapting to the speed of the ship. The Boat contains 20 seats four of which are marked with a red colour and are reserved for the pilots that control of the boat. The remaining seats are reserved for the crew.

The pilots can control the ship using the arrow keys as commands:

Arrow Up: Press to increase speed
Arrow Down: Press to decrease speed
Arrow Left: Turn left
Arrow Right: Turn Right

When a rower sits oars are rezzed and can be attached. If the rower stands the oars vanish.

In areas with no rez get oars by saying: "Give oars". Save the oars to inventory and wear them from there.

Background:
The Hjortspring boat is a well-preserved war canoe discovered in a bog on the Danish island of Als in 1921–1922. It dates to around 350 BCE, during the Pre-Roman Iron Age, and is one of the oldest known plank-built boats in Northern Europe.

Made primarily from limewood (linden), the boat is about 19 meters long and could carry up to 20 warriors. It was paddle-powered and likely used in warfare or ceremonial purposes. The construction shows advanced woodworking skills, using sewn-plank techniques and wooden pegs.

The boat was found with weapons, shields, and armor, suggesting it was a ritual offering, possibly to the gods. It provides crucial insights into early Scandinavian shipbuilding and the martial culture of the time.
