CHANNEL MONITOR

To use your monitor, rezz it, wear it as an attachment, or attach the smaller HUD. Then touch it to bring up the menus.

OVERVIEW

This tool is good for builders, scripters, or others who want to monitor chat communications between various objects & avatars occurring on known channels. I.e., you already know the channel numbers to monitor. This unit is NOT intended to be used to discover unknown channels. There are other better products for that.

You can copy, resize, & retexture the Monitor as desired. You cannot modify or transfer the script.

The monitor is very flexible & menu-driven. It allows you to add & delete any valid channels on the fly at any time. Valid channels cover the entire negative & positive range allowed by Linden. You can set up to monitor a single channel, or as many as 60, with each defined by you. The channels do NOT have to be consecutive. They can be ANY channels you want. If you need more than 60, just rezz more copies of your Monitor! You can use the prim version, HUD, & attachment all at the same time with different sets of channels.

You can turn the monitor on/off at any time without losing your channels. The Monitor glows when it is actively listening. A voice announces on-line & off-line status. You can see what channels are being monitored & sort them for easy viewing.

You can use the Channel Monitor to send messages to other devices on any valid channel. This can be especially helpful if you have a SL viewer that does not allow you to send chat on negative channels.

When monitoring is turned on & messages are received, they will be sent to the owner. In "Anyone' mode, messages are sent to chat channel 0.

Typical 1-Line Mode Output
Channel Monitor v1.1: Ch=22 || name=Fred McCellan || message=This is the message || key=475bb5fd-1f5d-47ad-b0fb-1c4fb6458c00

Typical Multi-Line Mode Output
Channel Monitor v1.1:
Ch=22
name=Fred McCellan
message=This is the message here
key=475bb5fd-1f5d-47ad-b0fb-1c4fb6458c00

Multi-Line mode is useful if the received message can possibly contain one or more "|" characters.

You are told the message channel, the name of the avatar/object that sent the message, the actual message, and the key.

The Monitor remembers its current settings (channels & start/stop status), so if you take the monitor into inventory & then rezz it later, it will retain this info. If the monitor was on when you took it into inventory, it will be on when you rerezz it.

MENU

To use the Monitor, touch it & a menu will appear. When an item requires input from you, it will be in the form of an input text box. All text boxes show example(s) of proper input. Please note that all menu items expire after 90 sec. The main menu automatically returns after each menu item has finished, so you don't have to keep touching the Monitor to bring up the menu.

The menu has the following items:

Start
Activates the listeners on all channels that are currently in your list & makes the monitor prim glow so you can easily see it is actively listening. A voice announces 'On-Line'.

Stop
Stops listening to all channels & turns off the glow. A voice announces 'Off-Line'.

Show Ch #s
Shows you a list of all the channels. They are shown in a text box if there isn't too much info, otherwise sent to chat.

Add Ch #s
Allows you to add one or more channels using a dialog text input box. Use a space or comma between each channel. You can add more channels at any time. If the monitor is started, it will start listening to any new channels. If the monitor is stopped, listening will not begin until you hit 'Start'.

Del Ch #s
Allows you delete one or more channels using a dialog text input box. Use a space or comma between each channel number to delete. You can delete more at any time. If the monitor is started when you delete channel(s), their listener(s) will immediately be terminated.

NOTE: You can use standard copy & paste techniques to paste info into the text input boxes.

Delete ALL
Deletes all channels from the list & terminates all listeners. When you select this menu item, you will be asked to confirm.

Sort
Sorts all the channel in your list.

Test Msg
Brings up a dialog text box where you can send a message on any valid chat channel. The test message is "shouted" so it can be heard up to 100 m away. NOTE: Due to Linden LSL limitations, if you send a test message on a channel you are monitoring, the Monitor cannot receive or display it. You can get around this by rezzing a 2nd copy of your Monitor & set it to listen to the appropriate channel.

Help
