Born of exotic prim torture, these one-prim shapes are free for you to add and twist with your own creative genius! And they're shiny too!

Some of the shapes are fragile - when you resize them they'll disappear, but they typically reappear in your inventory in the new size.

You should have full permissions on all of them - but if I messed one up, drop me an IM and I'll fix things.

Tortured Prim, Twisted Prim, Totally Prim!

The Prim is the fundamental building block in Second Life. Short for "primitive" it is (WAS) the only way to create objects in Second Life. This was before sculpts (sculpties, sculpt maps) and well before mesh (meshes). A parcel of land had a designated "prim count" that was a set number of how many prims a specific parcel could accommodate. Now it's referred to as Land Impact (LI) and is very different and based on sculpt and mesh dynamics.

Residents who refer to the fundamental prim, especially twisted and tortured prims as "sculpts" have no idea of the world apart they are from one another. Primitives are geometric shapes that rely on designating numerical values to attributes like twist, skew and standard characteristics like height and width. Sculpts are like lumps of clay that can be molded and shaped and mesh items are like complex computer graphics. Think of prims like real-world lumber. Sculpts like real-world clay. And mesh like real-world computer graphics. Now encapsulate those concepts within the confines of Second Life and OpenSim. You will see that the three, while similar in some respects (used to build things) are also very different (like drawing on a computer compared with drawing on paper).

At the end of the day, these items here - tortured prims - are a wonderful throw back to the very early days of Second Life when EVERYTHING was created ONLY with basic prims. As a result, there was incredible creativity that went into torturing and twisting prims to the very limits of what they were capable of to simulate things like leaves, photo frames, books, trees, houses, and whatever else one could imagine. Today building with prims alone are entirely unnecessary. But that doesn't at all remove them from their historical significance nor deny us from giving them the respect, if even in passing, that they deserve.

Prims are the original DNA building blocks of Second Life.
