A "ommode en encoignures" made by the cabinetmaker Claude Charles Saunier, between 1778 - 1785.
Made of Japanese lacquer plaques and decorated with gilt bronze mounts in the style "a la grecque", pieces like this represented the latest fashion of furniture of grand luxe, where ancient lacquers from the Far East were imported and mounted into new pieces to combine exoticism and sophistication, designed and sold by the great merchand merciers in Paris.
Sublime
Commode de grande classe. Un nouveau produit superbe comme j en raffole. Merci.
