Meet Mr. Rod. Creating an attractive good looking male head is a big challenge not just for Second Life but for any 3D related CG. We spent hours studying of what makes a male head attractive and good looking. We applied all the things we learned on Mr. Rod, in the end, we asked several females in real life and in Second life and it scored 10/10. What makes a male head good is that a male head must have an expression (deep looking eyes, a subtle smile, etc). That is why Mr. Rod is a static head, he has that soft approachable, handsome yet not snoopy expression. He doesn’t blink in fact blinking is a more feminine act. Instead of removing defects, we introduced more to give that masculine feeling, breaking symmetry is also another element what makes an attractive man contrary to female heads (more symmetry on female better looking she is). Of course, hair is the single biggest challenge for any 3D platform which especially requires polygonal hair (even more so for 3D men), we applied a different approach to tackle it. While making Rod we created a workflow that hopefully, we will make more of the same style heads.
Because it is modifiable and it comes with all source maps, you can change any aspect of the texture (hair, facial hair, adding scars, tattoos, skin color, etc.) or add any accessories (glasses, hats) to personalize it.
