Do you have people on your friends-list, that you haven't seen in quite a while? Or wonder what happened to someone who suddenly stopped logging in?

There is no official way to find out if an account has been deleted or got banned. The way Second Life works on a technical level requires that names, ID's, calling cards, friends-list and partner-tags keep staying valid, even if the person has (or got) deleted their account. Even the SL search is of no recourse here, since you can opt out from being shown in the search in the first place.

That is where this little tool comes in as a handy helper. Through a combination of clever scripting and many weeks of research, this tool can tell with a very high accuracy (I found 2 false positives in a set of 1000 names checked) wether an account is invalid. As of WHY - deleted by the user or the Lab, frozen, banned - the tool does not know. But with a certainty of 99,8 % it can confirm if an account is gone.

Why the hell did you develop this?

I am very active in the Bot-Spotter community in SL and have developed a tool that scans a region for roaming bots and which identifies "rogue" bots (bots not self-declaring as bots). You can find it at https://marketplace.secondlife.com/s/s/21008722

The list for this tool grew fast, but also the rogue bots get deleted fast. I needed a way to say for sure wether a bot got deleted, to keep the list trimmed down. So I dug.... and dug.... and dug.... and finally found a way. And then a friend asked me to run a few names through it and got very sad when a name showed up as gone, and I realized the tool has the potential to provide some closure for some.

This tool queries only entities provided by Linden Lab from within Second Life. At no point, information is transferred to other parties. What the tool finds out stays between you and Linden Lab.

A Imaginative Approach to that Age-Old Question... or is it Old-Age Question?

This is a cool little utility to run when you wonder what happened to so-and-so. No point in sending them messages if they silently go to the bitbucket.

I don't use this all that often, but once in awhile I check on an Old Timer, and sometimes they are, sadly, gone.

Rezz it or wear it, both will work!

I tested it with 112 people, few that I knew that got deleted and with some active friends.
It shows the rez date, profile link, online status and the inactive (deleted/frozen/banned) status.

It is a bit slow, it does work with over 100 names in the list, my suggestion is to only check a handful at a time.
