Thank you for your interest in the FreebieFinder! FreebieFinder helps make those treasure hunts when you are looking for freebies a little bit easier. It is also useful for finding objects you have misplaced, such as accidentally sunk into the ground or moved inside a wall.

FreebieFinder is a simple HUD that searches nearby and tells you whether an object whose name begins with the search string you input is found. This will mkae those gift hunts a lot easier, because the coordinates of the objects are displayed. It can also display the location of the found item on the map.

To use the FreebieFinder:

In your inventory, right click the FreebieFinder and choose Wear.
The FreebieFinder asks for permission to take controls. If you want it to continue to work in no-script areas of SL, choose Yes.
It should display as a small HUD near the top of your screen. The radar icon is yellow to show that it is not currently scanning.
Decide what the search term will be. You only need the part of object name. Searching for "free" will find objects named "freebie" or "free hat", for example.
In local chat, type "/26 name SearchTerm" (example: "/26 name free")
The radar image on the HUD turns green, indicating that scanning has begun.

The FreebieFinder will search up to 96m, identify the 16 nearest objects and then check to see if their name begins with the search term you have identified. FreebieFinder remembers the name of the last item it reported to you, and will not report it again until it finds a different match. This is to revent it reporting the same item found over and over again.

To see the location of the most recently reported item displayed on the map, type "/26 show". Your map displays the location of the item. When you close the map, if you were more than 3 meters away from the object, the map beacon should remain on your screen, helping you find the item. Note that due to a limitation in the Second Life scripting engine, mapping may not be accurate above 1000m in altitude.

To pause scanning, click the HUD. The icon turns yellow to indicate that the FreebieFinder is not currently scanning.
To resume sanning, click the HUD again. The icon turns green to indicate the scanning has resumed.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Because of the limitations of Second Life scripting, this only detects the nearest 16 items. In prim-heavy areas, you may need to be fairly close to the object in order to sense it.

Since FreebieFinder is a scanner, it contributes to script lag. When you are not hunting for freebies, it is polite to either pause scanning or detach the HUD.

Good luck, and enjoy.

Although its only 1L$ this is a waste of a linden even.
Only finds things that are about less than 10 meters from your position. Although the notecard says "96m".
I tested this myself with a few boxes named different names and it found none of them at different meters away from where I was standing.

Maybe this needs updated as maybe some functions were updated or removed. Who knows.

Simply, this does not work like advertised.

Better than most!

The only downside to this object is the distance limit. But it's otherwise just as effective as some of the other expensive object finders. I bought a 500L object finder and it didn't work at all. If anyone needs any help with hunt objects, just wear this, search for the object name, and walk around the store. When you're near it, the search will let you know. GREAT PRODUCT... and for a dollar? Couldn't get any better than this!
