ll of our pieces are inspired by paintings, illustrations and fashion plates of the period portrayed.
This particular piece is inspired by the portrait of the Anna Maria Jenkins by Angelica Kauffmann, portraying the fashion of 1790. Following the French revolution, fashion took a more relaxed and less ornate approach to dressing. The simple Chemise Gown and its variations became popular as a response to the previous more "decadent" style.
