With origins going back to the ancient Iranian tribes (which included the Phrygians), the cap was used by the Hellenistic Greeks in depictions of Orpheus, Paris, Ganymede, and the Amazons. The Greeks also had a military helmet with a similar shape.

The Phrygian cap came to be associated with liberty through a conflation with the pileus, a soft felt cap given to Roman slaves when they were freed. The Venetian Doge's hat was based on the Phrygian shape and further cemented its connection with Republican liberty.

It then became a symbol of the French Revolution, where it was known as the bonnet rouge and worn along with sans-culottes to demonstrate solidarity. The American Revolution adopted it soon after, using a red Liberty Cap on seals and coins, either alone or on the head of Columbia (a goddess personification of the United States).

You might also recognize the Phrygian cap from the Smurfs ;)

The hat comes in male & female sizes, both rigged & unrigged. There is a HUD with 3 fabric choices in 8 colors, plus tinting. Both PBR and legacy materials are included.
