A decorative ""Itto-can"" modeled after a commercial container of starch extracted from cassava root, the main ingredient of tapioca pearls. Commercial pearls may also contain modified starches such as “acetylated distarch phosphate” to improve quality and ease of cooking. Cassava is widely grown in countries like Thailand and Nigeria, and is processed into small, round shapes and dried to make tapioca pearls. These are what shops cook to make the tapioca drinks you know and love!

About the "Itto-can"
--------------------------------
"Itto-can" is a metal container widely used in Japan.
It holds approximately 18.0 liters, which is about 5 U.S. gallons.
The typical shape is a rectangular can.
In the late 19th century, it was imported into Japan from overseas as a container for transporting petroleum and was called a "petroleum can" at that time.
Because its capacity was close to the traditional Japanese unit of volume called "itto" (about 18.039 liters), the name "Itto-can" became common.
The current official name, as defined by Japanese industrial standards, is "18-liter can," but the term "Itto-can" is still widely used today.
