A marble bust of the English potter and enterpreneur Josiah Wedgwood.
In the early 1750s in Staffordshire he founded the Wedgwood Company, one of Britain's most renowned pottery industries, with its products finding markets in all parts of Britain, Europe and America. Taking advantage of the fall of baroque and following the new demand for simplicity and antiquity (a foretaste of what will be the Neoclassical style), he specialized in classical depictions, using only a few select colors (mostly light blue with white decors). He sold high quality and expensive creations to the nobility, and cheaper, emulated sets to the rest of society, while establishing warehouses all around Britain. Nevertheless, he still had enough time to run a proper family, since he had eight children from his beloved wife, one of which was none other than the future Charles Darwin's mother. A great bust to remember a great and successful man.
