NOTE: you can later upgrade the scanner to the sim-wide scanner array LindabeamArray by paying the price difference 200L. You can either contact me in-world to get it, or you can buy the array and send me a notice so I can reimburse the individual scanner price (minus the xstreet commission 15L).

--------------------------------------------------

Object finder that can find any object in the 96 meter sensor range by partial name or by the owner, even if there are 3000 objects in the range! Helps to locate lost objects, when normal sensors with max 16 detections don't work.

Examples:
Find all objects owned by the tool owner
/71 find /owner me
Find all tool owner's objects matching 'cat'
/71 find /owner me /name cat
Find all objects with name matching 'dragon'
/71 find /name dragon
Find all objects with name matching 'chair' , owned by Lindab Helendale
/71 find /owner lindab helendale /name chair

Found objects are listed as SLURL's to teleport there, or to see the location on the map, with the red arrow and beam pointing to it. Click the SLURL in chat history and 'Show on map' to see the red beam and arrow.

Technical note: LS sensors have a limit of maximum 16 detections per scan, so full coverage of the 96 meters range requires several scans, depending on the number of objects (for partial name matching we need to find them all), and a carefully planned scan pattern. Running randomly around with a basic repeating scanner may miss the object even if you pass close by, if the target is in the midst of a cluster of objects. This tool performs recursively new scans with narrower detection angle in any direction where there's more than 16 detections, until the whole 96 m range is scanned. Scanning an area with 2000 objects requires about 2 minutes, so it's not that fast, but then, you can be sure you find ALL the lost objects.

For a sim wide array of the Lindabeam sensors, see tool LindabeamArray , with 100% coverage of the whole sim (256 x 256 meters, from the ground level to 4096 meters).

Lag contribution: light; while scanning, the lag effect of the tool is comparable to a HUD radar many avatars wear constantly.

Keywords: object finder, radar, sensor, lost objects

NOTE: if you know the exact name of the object, this kind of tool is highly non-optimal. There are loads of freebie object finders with the 16 detections limit (and you can make one more in 2 mins), and unless the name is very common, any such radar would have the 96 meter radius. You would need my tool when you know only some part of the name or you want to find the objects of a given avatar. (Heh, emphasizing this may not be good for sales, but I don't want to sell overkill tools if a freebie will do.)

==== FAQ ==================

*My scanner does not work, it says 'unknown command'
Check that you start the command by "/71 find"

*My scanner does not find anything
Check that you give the object name after the keyword /name, like
/71 find /name Linda's pet
to find an object with string "Linda's pet" in the name.

If you search by object owner, check that you give the name after the keyword /owner.
The avatar name must be exact, but it's not case sensitive. Partial name matching for the owner would require querying the owner's name from the key for each object, and it would be very, very slow. You can use SL search tools to find the exact name if you know part of it.

=== BUGS ==================

If the scanner does not find an object that is inside the 96 meter radius, please let me know, and I will check it out. The mathematical algorithm for the search pattern is 100% proof, and also tested by careful simulations outside the SL, and field tests in SL.

There may be a bug in SL sensor detection cone, but it appears not reproducible. If there are over 16 objects within 0.5 meters, close to the sensor max range of 96 meters, separating them requires detection cone angle under 0.3 degrees and rotation of the object with that accuracy, and sometimes that seems to fail, and the sensor gives the same detections over and over again, no matter how narrow the cone is set. The scanner detects this condition and stops the scanning. This happens also if there are more than 16 objects in exactly the same location; no SL sensor can detect them all.

  • Finds all objects within 96 m range
  • Partial name search
  • Search by object owners
  • Theoretically proof search algorithm - it actually finds them all ;)

This product delivers exactly what it promises! I bought it because I had taken several things out of my inventory at a public sandbox and couldn't find them. As some were no copy items, I couldn't remember their individual object names. So, I had to search for them by owner, and it worked like a charm! Thanks, so much!
