Magic Lamp Override
A sparkling magic lamp emits letters and a mystical sound when you polish the lamp while wearing this typing override. A free demo version is available at Night Sky:
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Distorted/189/158/116
Included are a large and small version of the magic lamp, and each of these is provided in a light or no-light version (for those who find prims with the light feature cause more lag).
The lamp prims allow copy and mod. Other components are copy only.
Below is the notecard included with the Magic Lamp:
Magic Lamp Instructions
First, look at View < Beacons < Hide Particles. Hide Particles should
NOT be checked.
1. Find the folder Magic Lamp Override (box) in your inventory and open.
2. Right click the version you want (male or female, lights or no lights,
P2 or P4) and select Wear. An invisible Magic Lamp will attach to your left hand.
3. Type into your chat window. The regular typing sound and the typing
animation will play for a second, typical for this and all typing
overrides. If Second Life is behaving (see below), you'll be polishing a
magic lamp that glows with sparkling stars and emits letters, along with a magical sound!
Finger positions (fist, relaxed or splayed) cannot be controlled by animations, alas.
Animation priority 4 (P4) allows the Magic Lamp priority over actions like
hovering. Usually the priority 2 (P2) version works well since, for
instance, P2 allows you to use the Magic Lamp while sitting instead of
bolting to your feet.
The typical maladies which interfer with all scripts--prevent them from
running or make scripts run slowly or make particles look like gray
squares--also affect the performance of typing overrides:
1. Lag
2. Crowds
3. Many other particles being emitted within your view
4. The land owner forbids scripts. In this case you'll see, at the top
of your Second Life window, a tiny script icon with a red line through it.
5. Poor internet connection
6. Underpowered user computer or graphics card
7. Crossing sim or property boundaries
8. User settings don't allow certain graphics effects to be seen (Check
Preferences > Graphics Details)
9. The override isn't actually being worn...an easy one to fix!
If something isn't working right, it might help to detach, then reattach
the Magic Lamp.
If you'd like to shift lamp position, make a copy and work with the copy.
The magic lamp is invisible in edit mode, so select View > Highlight
Transparent. When Magic Lamp position is altered, only the arrows will be visible, so make very small adjustments. It is not recommended that size be altered, since that will affect the particles' positions.
General tips for Second Life graphics:
1. To remove fog: Client > Rendering > Types > Sky (If you don't see Client and Server tabs at the top of your window, for Win type Ctrl-Alt-d , for Mac type Cmd-Alt-Shift-d.)
2. To remove clouds: Client > Rendering > Types > Clouds
3. Set time of day to sunrise, noon, sunset or midnight by World > Force Sun > ...then take your pick!
