You can use this free full perm script to create a smooth crossfade effect involving any number of prims.
Each prim will appear in turn and at the same time the previous prim will smoothly fade out.
All aspects of the process are customizable through simple options in the scripts : from the identification of the involved prims and their face numbers, to the time they remain fully visible and the duration and smoothness of the crossfading process.
A demo object is included.
Best of all : it's free and full perm both for commercial and non commercial products. The only thing I do not want is people selling this script if not part of a bigger project.

I just saw this and in reading the description, I am looking forward to using this script, especially the "Detect link and face" script. I'm not a builder, however, I do put things together to use on a stage and this will help me big time when I link things and cannot find a particular one. Thank you so much!
