An empire style canape from the north of Italy (Lombardy) from the beginning of the 19th century.
with a strong neoclassical personality, the seat is made of carved wood, painted in cream and gilt, and decorated with stylized palmettes and rosettes on the waistband, and a richly decorated back, with female faces, rosettes and drapery from which hang a garland of laurel leaves and foliage. the sides with tied fascios.
Upholstered in pale green silk with bands in mauve and blue motifs, accompanied by tassels of trimmings at the corners.
Made for the Royal Palace in Milan, and taken years later to decorate the salons of the residence of the Emperor Napoleon, then in exile on Elba.
