A Genuine Carbon Copy: Paddle Steamer Waverley
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
You are looking at another real lady of the sea - the Paddle Steamer Waverley. Faithfully built to match her RL counterpart - the last seagoing passenger carrying paddle steamer in the world, she will carry you regally across the oceans and waterways of Second Life with grace and style.
Follow in the tradition of many a past Glaswegian on summer holidays 'Goin' Doon the Watter' on the Firth of Clyde by sailing on a vessel which carries the name of her honourable predecessor which was sunk while evacuating troops from Dunkirk in 1940. Have adventures and sail wherever you wish - remembering however that she is not the smallest craft in SL at 73.5m in length and 18.25m beam; with a relatively slow turn rate and a reasonable keel depth; and cannot be expected to navigate the shallows of inland waterways with real ease. The broad expanse of the Blake Sea is where she cruises with comfort, creating an unforgettable impression on shore based avi's and other sailors alike.
OVERVIEW
The ship will rez at 0,0,0 rotation. Please ensure you have enough clear space for it (preferably over water). It will also rez at approximately 26m on the z axis and will drop to its correct sailing depth when first boarded.
The controls are relatively simple and are based on a combination of Dialog boxes and regular key presses to operate the various options.
Firstly, as owner, you are able to set who can take the duties of Captain. Before boarding, click on the ship and you will get a dialog with the option of selecting Owner, Group, List, or Anyone as being permitted to act as Captain. The ship is scripted so that you can create your own Notecard listing permitted avatars and drop that in and it will update the List option accordingly.
Thereafter, you, or whoever is authorised to act as Captain, should board first and take up position at the ship's wheel. Thereafter you can invite up to 8 passengers to board and sit, relaxed for the journey, by clicking on various locations on the ship.
- Multi Level User Options
- Up to 8 passengers
Astonishing big paddle steamer!
Although it's really huge and has a large (100+) land impact, this has got to be one of the best steam boats available in Second LIfe. Amazing level of detail, well done passenger positions and animations, and excellent historical authenticity. The smoke, bow wave, and wake effects are also excellent. And the steamer drives quite well, with good camera options, practical throttle settings, etc. Hope this builder continues to develop more steamers...the previous Clyde Puffer is very good as well...and it would be nice to see some additional smaller craft of similar quality (steam launches, excursion boats, etc.)
