Please read this first :
- If you only ever sail the Blake, there are no ban line parcels to find there, so Pathfinder will not help much other than finding the rez zones.
- If you are thinking it will do stuff I did not say it will, it won't.
- It is not sat-nav.
- There are no textures to load, the HUD deliberately has few textures. If you are navigating among ban lines the last thing you need is a HUD sucking capacity from your texture cache when you need it to render that tree you are about to hit.
- If you don't get what it is for, please don't buy it.
- If you don't like its deliberately simple visual nature, please don't buy it.
- If you have questions about it, please ask them before buying it.

If you *truly* explore the more challenging reaches of SL, along the roads and waterways among resident owned parcels, then this might be your thing. It can literally be the difference between a great trip versus a teleport home. If that sounds like you, then read on....

Pathfinder Pro HUD

While designed primarily with the SL vehicle user in mind, the Pathfinder Pro will help any avatar explore SL .

The HUD scans and renders a path map of the region you are in, highlighting rezz zones, roads and waterways, and advising if nearby land might stop you in your tracks because of no-scripts, ban lines, or prim limitations.

PATHFINDER scans the region at a resolution of 8 metres - giving a truly realistic view of the access land around you on a 32x32 map grid.
Scanning a region at a 16x16 grid could quite easily miss the presence of a whole Linden road, as some roads are only 12 metres wide.
32x32 is high enough to give a great view of the region, without using huge amounts of script resources.

The HUD can be set to automatically scan as you enter a new region, or you can disable this and do your scans manually at the click of a dialog button.

Colours :
Bright Green : Linden rezz zone
Mid Green : Linden road or waterway
Dark Green : Accessible abandoned land
Bright Cyan : Other rezz zone / create objects allowed
Mid Cyan : Other accessible land, but not create objects
Bright Red : Banlines, no-scripts or other potential limits on access
Dark Red : Possible access but low number of prims available

The circle dot is your current location within the region. This updates as you move around.

New for v1.4 : now you can enable path map rotation - it turns to face the direction your avatar is facing.

The HUD was designed particularly in mind for SL vehicle users, so 'accessible' refers to the ability to enter land in a 32-prim SL vehicle. With new mesh vehicles the prim count varies, so some vehicles may still be able to enter land that renders red on the path map. However all vehicles should be able to follow green paths.

Ideal for explorers, whether on foot, motorcycle, car, plane, boat, hoverpod, banana jet, magic carpet....
Easy to find a new rezz zone if your vehicle goes wrong or you get logged out unexpectedly. It's like having a create objects permissions radar everywhere you go.
Also great for finding the hubs in the GTFO ( get the freight out ) game - thats the reason I made it! :)

Notes :
-In the event of SL having 'issues' and the HUD stops working for unknown reasons, detach and re-attach it to reset.
-The HUD will not function when you are on land where you cannot run scripts.
-Do not unlink the HUD as this will break it beyond sensible repair.
-When you are sitting on a physical SL vehicle, you can often still enter a parcel even if object entry is turned off in the land settings.

  • Easily find rezz zones, roads and waterways
  • Detect potential banlines or access limitations
  • Helps avoid straying into limited access land

Works as advertised.

A number of 1-2 star reviews here seem to be from people who don't know what they're talking about, or somehow misunderstand what this tool is designed to do.

The HUD works just fine out-of-the-box, and I was quickly able to verify that areas marked in bright red have banlines, green areas are owned by Governor Linden, and bright cyan allowed rezzing. Someone did mention that red regions are not necessarily inaccessible, things get a bit complicated there. The time it takes to scan a region is about 2 seconds, which is pretty good. You also have the option to make the map rotate to face your direction of travel, which was probably added after the product images were made.

A few extra suggestions...

One addition I'd like to see is the ability to resize the HUD. Although it is modifiable, resizing the map will make the 'your position' indicator display in the wrong place, presumably since the size of the HUD is hardcoded somewhere.

It would also be nice to change the compass directions to a simple "N S E W" rather than the full words curved around in a circle.

And finally, for power users, perhaps let us choose what is considered a 'limited access' zone so things like 'no voice', 'no pushing' etc don't count.

Nice concept. Doesn't work entirely as expected

Short Story: Nearly any restriction like No Voice or No Pushing will show up on the hud as Bright Red indicating, wrongly, that there is a ban line or other obstructions in the area. Go here http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Wallaroo/23/220/62 and see what I mean.

This is a pathfinder, so that only limitations that should be factored in are those that limit pathing.

Look, I like the concept of the hud. It is quick and responsive to update. It does show Linden roads and rez zones provided there aren't other restrictions that cause it to show red. That's too bad.

If you use this for walking roads or driving, then fine. If you want to fly, it won't help you navigate or find a flight path.

Great for finding Rez Zones

Found this to be quite useful. I've been trying to find every (public) Rez Zone in Bellissaria.

It is a little slow when entering a new region (I think due to mostly lag on my end).

Otherwise it does a good job showing Rez Zones (including ones that aren't clear or marked in 3d).

Has helped a lot.

A very useful HUD for travelers
If you are still returning home after you were thrown out of the car while moving from one region to another.
Buy this HUD you need it.
To the author, many thanks for the work.
