As with everything I make and sell in SL, I couldn't find what I wanted so I made what I needed myself and then offer it on MP at a fair price.

QR CODE GENERATOR - 1 prim only.
---------------------------------------------------

A QR code (an acronym for Quick Response code) is a type of matrix barcode invented in 1994 by the Japanese automotive company Denso Wave. Now they are everywhere and used for everyday purposes (see images for pic of my hotel room).

QR codes can be used for redirecting to a URL (website) such as a Marketplace item or store, a regular website, a search engine, a Flickr page or YouTube video, etc.

In SL they can also be used to display an avatar's profile page, a group profile page from where a person can join the group or a landmark where the place profile will be shown and one can TP from there.

Clicking on a QR code in SL will open relevant item such as a Landmark or avatar profile. Scanning the QR code with your phone will open a corresponding relevant web page.

Configuration notecard
-------------------------------

There are only one of two things you need to put in the configuration notecard which is either a 'UUID' or 'URL'.

If you add a UUID then it's either a avatar key which you can find from the avatar profile and looks like '8cdf1317-e9c2-41f6-a0e3-793f69fc76dc', or it's a group key which you can find from the group info page and looks similar.

If it's Landmark then it is the SLurl you get from the 'Copy SLurl' button on the world map and looks like http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Calas%20Galadhon/137/233/22.

For 'Web link' it's the web address you want to open for instance 'https://www.secondlife.com'.

URL Shortener
-------------------
If your web url is very long such as for a market place listing such as:
"https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Animesh-Chatbot-AI-Changeable-outfits-skin-Intelligent-Bartender-Greeter-Receptionist-Tour-Guide-Friend-etc/21034009", then the QR code can be quite complex as it has to encode all the information and might not work if you make the QR code object very small.

You can use a URL shortener to make a much simplified QR code that will work better when made very small - for instance instead of the above url, a short version would be:
"shrtco.de/wjVlpv".

To have your URL automatically shortened, just enter 'Yes' against Short in the config notecard.

Floating text
-----------------
You might want to have some floating text above your QR code saying something like "Click me or Scan me". For no floating text just leave it blank after 'Hover'. If you do want floating text, then you can also specify the colour.

Owners Menu
-------------------
If the owner touches the QR code object, then a menu will be displayed for them (see images).

There are two choices:

Test - this shows what another person would see if they touched the QR code object. It is important to test after making changes to the configuration notecard.

Create QR - this option will take the data from the configuration notecard and display a QR code for you in a browser window. From there you just save that image to your computer and upload into SL as a new texture which you can then apply to your QR Code object. After doing this, test again to make sure all is well including scanning the QR on your phone.

Using QR code objects in SL
--------------------------------------
One of the popular ways of using the QR code objects is to apply them to sale posters. Although you could of course put a script into a sale poster to redirect to MP, the thing about the QR code is that people are curious to click and people do actually scan these with their phones as well to see if it is a real QR code - so hopefully it could bring you more sales.

See images for a picture showing an example of a poster with a QR code.

Other ideas - you could have multiple QR codes mounted on a board just like my RL hotel picture above. I have used a QR code as my profile image in case people want to scan it. Profile pics is another place where you could use them. It is just down to your imagination.

Good luck using this product - I would like to hear about any novel ways you have found to use QR codes in SL.

Any questions just ask me, Philomena Fhang
