Sidney's home security guard
============================

Thank you for taking an interest in my home security guard.
Please use this item responsibly and not to cause mayhem in public places

=======
SUMMARY
=======
Do you sometimes worry about your SL home or business when you are not there. Are you unhappy at the thought of just anyone walking about unchallenged! But at the same time you are either unable to, or do not wish to go to the extream of ejecting and/or banning an AV from the land.
If this is the case then my home security guard maybe just what you need. Perhaps you just need something to remind those who enter your house to take off their shoes! Maybe you are a bit of a joker and want to see your friends chased round the sim!

===========
DESCRIPTION
===========
With nobody near my security guard spins at the centre of its patrol range. This being the location it is rezzed or the position it is reset using the touch menu.
When an AV is detected within the patrol range a number of things are checked to see if this AV is allowed. Is the AV name in the "Friends List" notecard? If so it is ignored. Is the guard group mode enabled as does the AV have the same matching group as the guard? If so it is ignored.
If it is decided that the AV should not be nearby then the guard moves in to intercept them. If the particle mode is enabled then a stream of coloured balls is sent out towards them. Once the guard is very close then the message given in the "Warning text" notecard is whispered every 2 seconds.

You, the owner, will receive an InstantMessage to tell you that someone is being chased:
- Sidney's home security guard : Starting to chase Sidney Priestman on 2008-9-25 at 23:33:10 GMT

This bombardment of coloured balls (if enabled) and the warning message (if close) carries on until either the AV is aurthorised (name added to friend list or group tags match) or the AV goes outside of the patrol range. In all these cases the guard returns to its sentry post at the start position.

You, the owner, will receive another IM to let you know why the chase was stopped.
- Sidney's home security guard : Stopped chasing Sidney Priestman on 2008-9-25 at 23:34:29 GMT after 0h:1m:19s , 11 warnings issued

Other reasons for the chase to be stopped are:
- The AV is wearing a matching tag and group mode is enabled.
- The AV is now in the friends list.
- The AV closest to the starting point will be the one chased.
- The AV is not outside the patrol range
- The AV is no longer nearby

Please note that this guard does not physically push AVs. It also does not eject/ban them from the land. All it does is harasses them as described.

The main prim is MODIFY so that you can change the object name and/or apply different textures if the tartan theme is not to your taste.

If you have paid a bit more for the COPY version then you can rez a whole army of guards!

INSTRUCTIONS
============
The following menu commands are available after touch the main prim

"reset" - This command allows you to reset the script. The main reason for doing this will be to reset the starting (base) point that the guard patrols from. The easiest way to do this is to edit the prim, use the arrows to choose a new starting point and then, with the edit window still open, right click the prim and select "Touch". This will bring up the main menu and you can select "reset". You will then be asked "Are you sure you want to reset?". If you are sure you should choose "yes_reset". The script will now reset and the new starting location will be set.

"info" - This command shows the current settings. You will receive a message something like the following: "Patrol range: 20m, chase speed: 10, idle speed: 15, phantom mode enabled, particle mode disabled, AVs with same group allowed"

"range" - This allows you to choose a new patrol range. Any AVs that come within this range of the starting location will be checked to see if they are allowed. The following options are available: "5m", "10m", "20m", "30m", "40m", "50m", "60m", "70m", "80m", "90m", "100m"

"chase speed" - This allows you to choose how quicky the guard will move towards a valid target. The following options are available: "1", "2", "3", "4", "5", "10", "15", "20", "25", "30". The lower the number the faster the guard will move. Basically it is the time it takes to reach the target. For example if you choose "10", it will take 10 seconds for the guard to reach the target once detected, assuming the target does not move of course!

"idle speed" - This allows you to choose how quickly the guard returns to the starting point. The options are the same as for the chase speed.

"phantom" - Choosing this allows the guard to pass through any objects.

"not phantom" - Choosing this will cause the guard to bounce off solid objects. Be careful to make sure that someone could not lead the guard into a situation where it could

  • detects intruders
  • chases unwanted people away
  • annoys those that choose to stay if not invited
