If you are installing Ocean Engineering waves and surf toys at your skybox, Sky Water will help you align these scripted objects to the same level to work together. The top surface of the Sky Water is the level waves and boards will use for water. Sky Water broadcasts a signal that the other objects listen to, this tells them where the water level is.
Sky Water comes in several large megaprim sizes and can hang half way off-sim for surfing or swimming off-sim. It also comes in a small prim that you can hide near your skybox so you can build your own water, or even just paddle on air!
Sky Water only works above 100 meters and is intended for use much higher, anywhere you can rez objects, up to about 4095 meters above the ground. It will only communicate with waves that are also owned by the same person or group. If a wave does not lock onto the water level, compare the ownership of the wave and the water.
The boxed prim that Sky Water comes in contains several different sizes. Most of these are megaprims so be careful not to use one that is so large it hangs over your neighbors property. One of the Sky Waters included is 256x256 meters for covering an entire sim. There are several other sizes like 50x50 meters. You cannot change the size of megaprims, nor can I anticipate all the sizes that everyone will want. The solution to this is the smallest Sky Water, only 0.5x0.5x0.01. This small one can be placed in an out of the way place to simply define the water level, then you can build your own water to any needed size and place it at the same level.
There is no need to install more than one Sky Water at the same level, one Sky Water will broadcast to any wave or surf toy across an entire sim. If you make water out of several prims, only one of them needs to be Sky Water.
You can install several Sky Waters in the same parcel at different levels. HOWEVER, waves and surf toys will lock on to the closest one and move to that level. If you want completely separate levels of water, they must be far enough apart to prevent confusion. If you want objects to interact with closely spaced levels of water, you may be disappointed. Sky Water only broadcasts water information infrequently (to prevent “chat lag”), so a moving wave will not quickly switch from one water level to another, and will change levels at seemingly random locations. Kayaks or surfboards will behave in a similar way, they will switch between levels at seemingly random times.
Sky Water broadcasts a signal infrequently, only once or twice a minute. If you click on Sky Water, it will send the signal out immediately to any nearby waves or surf toys that have not locked on yet.
