Starbase Emergency Escape Pod
Only 10 prims

Take a hair-raising free-fall ride to the sim surface!

When you and your crew are under threat and need to evacuate your starbase in a hurry, make your way over to the Starbase Emergency Escape Pod. This Pod will take up to three crew members or passengers on a fast, breath-taking descent straight down to the sim surface, leaving your starbase way behind and thousands of meters above you.

Here's how it works:

1. Fight your way to the Docking Tube and pass through it to the Escape Pod. The doors will automatically open and close for you without the need to touch them.

2. Sit on one of the seats. You can take two other crew members with you, so tell them to get seated, too.

3. Inside the front of the Pod is the Gravity Tether panel. If you touch this, you'll get an announcement telling you have ten seconds before it disengages. Use this time to steady your nerves.

4. The Gravity Tether is released and the Escape Pod begins to free-fall all the way down to the sim surface. Be advised that you may experience some turbulence and tumbling during the descent. But you'll have one of the most exciting rides you'll ever experience in SL.

5. After a short time, the Escape Pod will hit the sim surface and may continue to bounce and roll. Depending on the regional land slopes, you may find yourself in uncharted territory. Do not attempt to exit the unit until it comes to rest.

6. The Pod is set to automatically delete itself after 5 minutes, so no need to worry about clearing up the landing site after touchdown. That should give you ample time to sit tight and enjoy the ride down.

The Escape Pod has a detailed illuminated control panel and a rotating light beacon on the front.

The Escape Pod Docking Tube has doors at both ends and gently pulsing internal wall lighting. It is a standard fitting with any of your Exosphere starbase modules and can be attached with the usual method of touching the square bulkhead frame.

Things to note:
The Gravity Tether switch can ONLY be operated by you, the owner of the Escape Pod. (so you'll never be left behind in the blind panic to get off the starbase)

It's copy and mod, so you can have several Escape Pods, all lined up together or strategically positioned so all your crew can escape from that swarm of aliens or the gang of armed mercenaries intent on taking over your base. The Pods are designed not to interfere with one another's communication signals.

If an Escape Pod has already gone from the Docking Tube, you can rez another one. There's a Pod Generation Panel inside the Docking Tube. Touch it to generate a new Pod. If one is already there, it will replace it with the new one. If there's anyone already sitting in the Pod when you do this, they'll be kicked out of their seats, and will have to re-seat themselves. Warn them first!

Once the Pod has fallen about 20 meters away from the Docking Tube, another one will automatically generate itself to take its place. There is a "no spawn" version of the Docking Tube included if you'd rather use the manual method to generate a new Pod each time.

If the Escape Pod strikes any obstacles on the way down, such as skyboxes or structures, it will bounce off them and continue to roll and fall. Exosphere Corp cannot guarantee where your Pod will finally come to rest, so you might have to do some exploring once you have landed.

You can use Mouseview if you want to experience the true feeling of tumbling through space, but the normal SL camera views will work just fine.

If you land in water, the Pod will sink to the seabed, so wait until it finally stops rolling and then open the hatch and swim out.

If you don't take a seat before the Gravity Tether cuts off, you will get flung around the Pod during the descent. You may even get accidentally ejected from the Pod before the journey is over! Don't say we didn't warn you!

It shouldn't need saying, but it's inadvisable to open the Pod doors on the way down and attempt to climb out.

This is one-way trip! You will have to regroup with your surviving crew members and make your way back up to the starbase. Don't forget, those invaders may still be there!

All the Exosphere starbase modules can easily be joined together by simply touching their bulkhead door frames. They'll move themselves into place and align themselves automatically. You can join this module to others to form part of a larger base.

I'm very happy with these products from this friendly maker who was ready to help me at once with a couple of questions and even wishes I had in mind. Prompt, friendly service indeed! :)

Good looks and textures, nice details, low prim, affordable price and modular design are the key factors that make these products my favourites for my sci-fi needs!

The best ride there is! ;D

Highly recommended!!! 10 stars out of 5!!! :)))

The solution i NEEDED!!!

Ok so, I had built an automatic "shuttle" (using a guided tour system) to get people UP the the space station. But I needed a "return trip" to get back down. And well, teleporting is just not good enough really, is it... its boring!! So, I wanted some new and exciting way to get people back to the ground, and I didnt want to just do another "return trip shuttle". THEN I found the escape pod!! and OMG this is so much fun!! Now, I cant make anyone STAY on the space station! All they want to do is find a reason to use the escaped pod!! Which I totally understand, as I "escaped" about 11 times in a row!
Its well designed, well detailed, and its fun!
I have an island sim, so it always manages to stay in the sim. Although once or twice I landed underwater, with the escape hatch buried in the sand :( This is not a "fault" just one of those random things we all love! The people in the escape pod, then needed to be rescued. Well we could have just left them to become food for the alien underwater life i guess.... (kidding)
I love it!

Too Much Fun!

Who needs an actual emergency, this is just fun to ride. The fall speed is slowed a bit so it's not too hard to keep track of yourself. I guess if there were one suggestion it would be to make it settle in a position that would let you get out or have a parachute or something, but even without that it's worth every L. Get somebody who doesn't know what's going to happen to sit in it and hit the release.

The wildest ride in Second Life

Brenda and Eco are right in what they claim for this sucker; cut it loose, and your graphics card will struggle to keep up with you if you're focused close in. Most fun comes when you're dropping from over 1,500 meters. Anything under 1,000 is just too short a ride. Hope your neighbors are easy with you tumbling into their hot tub or barbecue pit!

Stupidly awesome. This escape pod completely rocks! Fantastically done, richly detailed, and the most fun you'll ever have abandoning ship! The ride down is fantastic, and it successfully captures the tension and drama of the moment. Very well-done!
