You've all seen the Volvo Open 70. But alas, all good things must come to an end. The Volvo Ocean race is changing it's boats. The new boat for 2014 is the One Design 65. Still being built in real life, but already available on Second Life. It's faster. It's lighter. It's even more beautiful.
Just a few options to give you an idea what this boat is capable of:
- 3D luffing sails
- An asymmetrical gennaker
- Folded sail when lowered
- Engine mode for mooring
- Real life polars
- Wake and bow splashes
- A manual keel
- Aqua planing
- Crew HUD for sail and keel trim
- A free iPad wind setter
- The most realistic wind on the grid
- 9 different poses
- A buoy for mooring at sea
- Moving main sheet
- Easy texture change
- Automatic dagger boards
- Changeable transparent sails
- Navigation lights
- SLSA race line subscription
- Only 92 prims when moored
In the box is only one item: the boat. The boat will give you items like a manual, free iPad, Crew HUD and polar reference model. Like the VO70, it's easy to sail this boat, but it's really hard to sail it well. Learning to make this boat do what you want will be hours of sailing fun.
And the best news: due to it's shorter development period and slightly less excessive package, this boat is a lot cheaper.

None of the commands work by testing on his own island
All the others work perfectly ... I would like a boat of the same value that works
Good price and sails well
This is a fun boat to sail and race though can be challenging to get the hang of it which is part of the fun. After I had bought this I discovered the sitter adjuster used in this as well as several other boats does not always work and in the case of this boat never works saving adjustments made. For tall people this might never get noticed, but for shorter people is a problem. I had notified Dutch and he is considering ways of addressing this. Though it might be somewhat a pain and time consuming I would like to see something used that has a modifiable notecard/config file, this way once the right position is found it can be hard coded in the sitter. Another boat maker I like does this and takes more time to configure if need be, but once is done it is done and I never seen it fail.
GET IT!
I love boating and always wanted to sail. I watched a YouTube video on sailing in SL BWind and purchased the Nacra 17 after several demo runs. I was up and running out of the “box”. After 4 hours or so . . .seeing the Volvo65 . . . I began to wonder . . . so I took a several demo runs with no one around. Yes, I can handle this and bought the boat. I'm thrilled with the purchase. It’s smooth and easy to handle. Loads of fun. Get it!
Read the instructions and get the add-on textures . . .
A big THANK YOU to Dutch.

Wonderful Experience
Get ready for the ultimate sailing experience. Wind in your hair, ocean spray in your face. The sails are very tall and really catch the wind. You need to be thinking ahead before you make the next turn, or face capsizing your new boat; not a very pretty thing LOL. The craft comes with a convenient hud to help you trim the sails and adjust the keel. The over all feel of the Open Design 65 is realism at its very best. You're there, you're in the wind, you can almost smell the ocean. What a ride!!! I am giving this product two thumbs up!! So happy with my purchase, and money well spent :) Achieved 23 knts on the first trip out. Woot Woot.
fantastic!
Absolute fantastic. "Easy" to sail with basic knowledge but MUCH options for professionals also. For me it will take some time until I am able to use all possibilities, but I love it :)
Thanks for this great ship to an affordable price!
Five stars for a RUNNER!
When I first had the chance to see the vessel I couldn't trust my eyes, so many Details. The VOLVO V 70 already was Top, but this one....yummy!
Mesh: Before someone starts complaining, its mesh, not a Primboat. But Mesh is on its way for more and more vehicles so people get used to it. I had no problem at all on several sims, not with sailing and not with sim crossings.
Visuals: Top Build cant be better.
Graphics: smooth and crisp, very clear and stylish.
Textures: There are a great variety of additional textures on the marketplace making this runner awesome. Changing the texture is just a click. If you like you can re texture the boat yourself, all templates are provided. Very user friendly.
Poses: Easy to handle but watch out not to get wet.
Handling: The customized B-Wind script is very cool and the boat handles easy. Another cool feature is that you can go hard on the wind without capsizing it, I had her at 54°, real fun. And you can actually glide with this runner a very nice feature.
Sim crossing: I tried everything, normal cross 90°, parallel cross 5°, crossing over the corner, where 4 sims are connected. NOTHING ever went wrong, no crash, no flying in the air, no diving like a sub nothing, All went very smooth. And I was shocked when I found out that I had forgotten to remove a script from my Hair giving me a script load from way over 400!
So would I recommend this boat? Definitely a yes if you like the competition between yourself and other boats. Its a racing machine on the water, not a cruiser.
So Dutch, another good Job Bro 5 stars!
