THORENBUILT - CLASSIC PICKET FENCE - 1 PRIM
For developers or personal use. Package includes:
sculptmap (no-modify)
sample (no-transfer, 1 prim)
Classic it may be, SL didn't really allow for the good ol' picket fence. Alpha textures had to substitute to keep prims down.
This sculptie has 60 pickets (the vertical slats with pointy top, not too even) in a row, plus to stretchers (the horizontal strips on which the pickets are mounted) and 2 posts (the poles that hold the fence off the ground). That's enough for some 10 meters of fence, about 1.2 meters high. There's no end post, which makes the fences suitable to line up and change direction.
64 elements is about as much as I can fit in a sculpt map, given the limits set by SL. And yes, if you must, you can paint the pickets in different colors. Make your texture 16x1024 pixels; each 16x16 block is one picket or post, with the bottom part being used for the stretchers.
One more tip:
On the Object Edit window, Object tab, set Stitching type to Plane for a flat shading and sharper elements, or set to Sphere for a more rounded shading with soft-edged elements. Either stitching type will work fine with most of Thorenbuilt's sculpties, no open ends of funny effects.
LandscapingIdeasOnline (now that's "picket fence" of a different nature!) says about white picket fences:
"The white picket fence has become an icon. It is not merely a means of tracing a property line or a frame upon which rambling roses may grow. The picket fence has become a symbol of property ownership and an embodiment of a key component of the so-called American dream."
