This is very traditional Japanese curtain call "Noren".
Normally this curtain is hanging door way.(upper of the door)
Specially Japanese use for business, like a shop's sign.
Then customers knows the shop is open or close.
This type Noren is for house, of course Japanese use this for each house too.
Maybe traditional way to use at kitchen door.
