Updated and better than ever!
This second version of the Light Bridge is even more stylish and detailed, and a great way to connect places across large gaps (up to around 60 meters!) on your sci-fi and cyberpunk future sim with a hard-light beam!
Just place two copies of the bridge ends across each other and touch to activate, and watch the light bridge materialize in vivid colors!
[Features]
- includes bridge piece with arc (10 LI) and without arc (6 LI)
- bridge pieces will auto-align on activation, easy setup
- can cross gaps up to around 60m distance
- two color versions, white and black
- color customizable: change the color of the beam and lights by using standard SL tools (requires a minimum of editing knowledge)
- activates by touch or just walking onto the bridge (configurable)
- sounds when activated, running and shutting down
- comes with detachable arc and customizable holo-screen
- change size simply via rescaling
- materials enabled (requires Advanced Lighting)
[Easy setup]
1.) Rez the Light Bridge and move it to its destination
2.) Copy the bridge piece and place it roughly across from the other, make sure it's on exactly the same height (Z-level)
3.) You're done! Touch or walk onto the bridge to activate. It will align automatically.
Please note: odd angles and different heights of the bridge pieces are not supported. They have to be more or less exactly aligned!
[Changing glow and bridge colors]
Simply change the color of the glow/neon strips on the bridge via edit tools, and the light beam and all lights will update automatically. The same works for the glow on the arc.
Advanced users may also edit the beam object inside the bridge for further customization.
[Changing the holo-screen image]
The holo-screen on the arc will display the texture that's inside the bridge contents (the root object).
By default, it is called "welcome_2x1".
Simply delete the old one and put a new full-perm(!) texture inside, it doesn't have to have the same name.
To get correct aspect ratio, textures should have their size or aspect in their name.
- Example: "mytexture_16x9" for a texture that's 16:9 aspect
- Or: "mytexture_1920x1080" if you know the original resolution
[Using more than one bridge]
Same as easy setup, but make each bridge pair belong to the same letter as written in the notecard setting in bridge inventory.
*pair = A
Where "A" can be anything but must be the same(!) in both bridge pieces.
For a second bridge try "pair = B" in both new pieces. For yet another pair, try "C", and so on.
[Configuration options]
Found inside the contents of the object are notecards with configuration options and values.
Simply edit the title of the notecard to change the values, this will auto-update the configuration.
.
- *pair = A (as said above, controls which other bridge this piece connects to)
- *volume = 100 (how loud the sounds are, 0 = muted, 100 = full)
- *activate on walk = yes (whether or not to turn the bridge on when someone walks on it, "no" to disable)
- *activate on touch = yes (enables activating the bridge on touch, "no" to disable)
- *activated by = any (who can activate the bridge, "any" = everyone, "owner", or "group" = avatars with same group active as the bridge)
- *power off delay = 0 (seconds until the bridge turns itself off automatically, 0 = never, 120 = two minutes, etc)
Note that you can restore the default value of an option by simply deleting the corresponding notecard from the inventory.
See item in Second Life- bridge pieces will auto-align on activation, easy setup

- comes with detachable arc and customizable holo-screen

Awesome
I used this system as a space station docking mechanism put into a rezzer and it worked perfectly. Didn't find it hard to set up and use at all. Nice :)
Editing each part individually is tedious.
Unlike other solares products, this one you have no scripted hud or menu that is scripted to sync up every bridge. This means you have to go into the contents of each bridge part individually and change the name of every notecard to your liking. I unknowingly used quite a lot of these and had to turn off every setting... my hand still hurts.
