ushuaia text info HUD (boxed) Version 1.1.0
Extra important: this was retired, and has been brought back as a completely unsupported freebie as I kept being asked for it. I'll fix bugs, but I will not be able to help with installing or using it. Old customers that previously paid for this will continue to get support if needed, but new customers of the free version will receive no support.
Important: Using this mod means you will need to be able to use Edit Linked and are reasonably familiar with modding/building. It's a little more complicated than the normal text info mods I have, but not much more :)
Also important: Hover text can only be displayed in one colour. It is not possible to display different colours for jib and main within the same piece of hovertext. So the script will set the colour of the text to the main sail's colour in preference to anything else.
Also also important. This has been updated to match the recent 1.1 update to the Ushuaia. The old script won't work in the new boat since the order of the linkset has changed. Be sure to use this script in your 1.1 Ushuaia.
What is it?
It's simply a script that reads the relevant parts of the boat's linked objects and turns that in to a human readable hovering text display.
When you are out sailing, the instruments on your boat will indicate different pieces of information to you. The most useful of these are interrogated by the script, crunched with a bit of maths and then turned in to a nice friendly and hopefully reasonably familiar display.
The display consists of the following items:-
Heading (in degrees)
Speed (in Knots)
then, if the sails are up:-
Apparent Wind Angle (in degrees)
Sheet Angle (in degrees) (and Bwind setting hint)
Jib Angle (in degrees) (and Bwind setting hint)
Ratio of Apparent Wind Angle to Sheet Angle (or Jib if the main isn't raised)
then:-
Depth (in metres)
and if you're using the engine, that'll get shown too
In addition to this, the text will be coloured in the normal BWind colours, along with an indication on the sheet and jib lines of how each sail is set. The colour will match the boat's main sheet indicator if the main is raised, or the jib's indicator colour if the main isn't raised.
Note that each sail has it's own angle line in the display with a matching text indicator. Oh, try it, you'll see :)
Red text means the sails are too loose, and is also signified by the text |>><<|
Yellow text means the sails are close to optimal, and is also signified by the text |><|
Green text means the sails are in the optimal range, signified by the text |=|
Cyan text means the sails are too tight, signified by the text |<>|
Installation is simple, though you will need to be able to use Edit Linked and be able to copy contents from objects in linksets in to your inventory and back in to other objects.
When you next rez your boat, simply touch the part containing the script to toggle the text on and off.
While the boat is in motion the text will display pertinent information taken directly from the boat's own instruments. It's not made up by the script, it's the actual rotation of the sails and readings from the display panels turned in to text.
It should display as much information as is relevant to how you're currently using the boat.
I'll send out free updates as and when they occur, though I don't anticipate making any. The most likely reason would be an update of the boat changing the link order of the items I use as sources for the HUD's data.
See item in Second Life- provides a textual information HUD for your Ushuaia
- uses a familiar BWind style presentation
- just one script to place in your Bandit IF
Great add-on
Badly needed functionality. Following the excellent instructions was pretty easy. The photos in the instructions made it even easier. I don't know what you used to charge, but it was worth it, for L$0 it's a gift :)
Works fine
I followed the instructions and yayy, it works. Although free, its worth the normal price.
Best about it is that it also shows engine gear when manouvering in a harbor, something badly needed for this boat.
Sadly there is no such thing for the TMS Ocean Beach
