Like any other off-sim sim extender in Second life, this wave allows people with shorefront property to place an object off the edge of the sim in the “Void Sea”. Unlike most static extenders, this wave will rise up far from shore, smoothly approach, crash onto your land, and start over. The wave uses physical vehicle motion to move smoothly. Multiple sound sources makes for a thundering-crashing sound when the wave hits the beach. This wave will work at ground level or up next to your skybox. (Ocean Engineering “Sky Water” is recommended at altitude for best performance). Unlike other off-sim extenders you can surf on this wave! (You must purchase a compatible Ocean Engineering surf kayak, surfboard, body surf or other “off-sim vehicle”). For example, the WaveRider Off-Sim Buoy will ride up and over this wave as it passes.
This wave is easier to install than any other Second Life wave! Drop it on the shore and it surveys your land and water, choosing a configuration to work well in most locations. The wave will combine off-sim and on-sim water if available to make surfing rides longer. A notepad configuration is also available for custom wave placement. This wave has a dialog to change its size to up to 64 meters wide and 32 meters tall! This is all done with the new prim size limits, so no mega-prims are used in the construction of this wave. The prim count is still only a low 5 prims!
Don't give up valuable land to make water to surf in! Surf Off-Sim!
Installing an Off-Sim Wave at Ground or Linden Water Level:
To get the wave started, stand close to the edge of the sim and drag the wave out of inventory onto the ground. If you have water at the edge of the sim it is best to place the wave on the ground under the water. The wave will survey your land and water, choosing the best position and route to function. If you have a small parcel, the range of motion may not be far. If you have water at the edge of your sim, the wave will survey this and try to set itself up to run all the way up to the beach where the land meets the water. The wave will choose a direction, rotate to move perpendicular to the edge of the sim, choose a path and start running. The wave tries to choose the longest path possible, so your installation may be done!
Installing more than one Off-Sim Wave:
The wave is COPY so you can install several of them if you like. HOWEVER, off-sim toys like a kayak, surfboard, body surfer, buoy, etc will get confused if your waves are too close together. For surfing it is best if the waves are far enough apart to not overlap very much. Note that off-sim toys will not “see” the wave at first. The wave has to run through a complete cycle before these objects figure out where it is. Be patient, hang out at the line-up and wait for the wave to pick you up once before starting to surf.
Installing an Off-Sim Wave next to a Skybox:
Since Second Life physics does not work off-sim, I had to write my own physics into the scripts! But this means that my surf physics will work anywhere, not just at “Linden Water” level. You can install this wave next to your skybox and surf at any altitude up to about 4095 meters. And the surf board, kayak, etc. will all work up there as well.
If you drag the wave onto a prim above the ground (at least 100 meters or higher) it will assume you are installing it in “Sky Water” above the ground. It is still recommended to do this as close to the edge of the sim as possible. (This removes any ambiguities about which way is off-sim). At first the wave will assume it was rezzed at about the correct altitude, survey your parcel and start running. It would be best if you installed Ocean Engineering “Sky Water” first. Sky Water communicates with the wave, other waves and other off-sim toys like surfboards and makes everything work on the same sky-water level. It may take a minute for the wave to “notice” all the Sky Waters. Be patient and the wave will find it's level.
See item in Second Life View Video »- Waves come in sets, getting larger then smaller
- or random wave sizes, each one different
- or fixed size waves.
- You can surf this wave off-sim with Ocean Engineering Off-Sim Vehicles:
- Kayak, surfboard, canoe, river raft and more!
Works well for me!
Works well for me, although i wish it was more realistic in appearance but overall i give the thumbs up!
I should have read the reviews first
This is shocking. Total waste of money. Tried to change the parameters and nothing...totally uneditable and the wave just crashed straight over my land and house. Pointless.
WASTE OF LINDENS I WANT A REFUND!!!
I BOUGHT THIS BEFORE READING THE REVIEWS WHAT A MISTAKE!! I REZZED THIS POS AND TRIED TO EDIT THE "PARAMS" CARD THE BUILDER FAILED TO MAKE IT MODIFY SO YOU CANNOT CHANGE THE STARTING POINT TO THE WAVE THIS IS A ROOKIE BUILDER ERROR!!! I IMD HIM A FEW DAYS AGO AND NO RESPONSE!! I WANT AND DEMAND A FULL REFUND!! THIS COST ME $1100 LINDENS!! I WANT A REFUND THIS IS A WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME!!!
Waste of Time & Lindens
This is by far the worst purchase I have made in SL along with the surfboard.
It passes itself off as something enjoyable, when in fact, it is slow moving, unrealistic looking and totally impractical.
Terrible product with no redeemable qualities at all.
